In her latest release, Amanda McCarthy invites us into her personal therapy session while also delivering music that sounds like a stadium anthem. Her sophomore album, ‘Looking For The Light,’ is an 11-track journey through the messy, humorous, and ultimately healing process of outgrowing your past.

Produced in Nashville by Kristian Veech, the album marks a definitive turning point for McCarthy. McCarthy’s project successfully strikes a balance between pop sensibilities and a country-rock edge, demonstrating her ultimate discovery of the ideal balance between “angst” and “sophistication.”

Early reviews are raving about Amanda’s electric, next-level artistry:

“We’ve been following Amanda’s career for some time now, and it’s been incredible to watch her growth…not only as an artist, but as a person. Her music still carries that touch of angst we all crave, now delivered with a new level of sophistication. Looking For The Light is a genuine reflection of the remarkable artist Amanda McCarthy is today.”
-Music City Melodies

“The production is sharp and clean and the wit cuts deeper. It’s giving Wilson Phillips meets Taylor Swift in group therapy deciding laughter beats crying.”
Laurelanne Media

“Amanda McCarthy’s ability to move effortlessly between genres makes her music a standout on any playlist, and Looking For The Light is no exception.”

A Sonic Rollercoaster

‘Looking For The Light’ refuses to be boxed in. You get the Nashville-soaked tones of “Vodka” and “Every Bar Downtown,” the high-octane pop-punk energy of “I’m Not Fine (But I’m Okay),” and the stripped-back, raw vulnerability of the closing tracks “The Last Word” and “Waste of a Heartbreak.”

“This album encapsulates leaving the most triumphant era of your life to thrive, crash, burn, and thrive again in a new city while battling undiagnosed ADHD and years of unprocessed trauma,” McCarthy shares. “We’re choosing forgiveness over anger and connection over alienation.”

About Amanda McCarthy

Amanda McCarthy’s life story reads like a movie script. From becoming a parent before 21 to moving to Nashville mid-pandemic, she has never taken the easy route. Her career was famously kickstarted when she sang an Aerosmith song directly to Steven Tyler in a local bar—a move so bold it gave her the final push to move to Music City.

Since then, she has transitioned from coffee shops to iconic stages like The Bluebird Cafe and The Listening Room. Her sound—a blend of Michelle Branch’s rock edge and Kacey Musgraves’ storytelling—has allowed her to share stages with giants like Hunter Hayes, Train, Natasha Bedingfield, and Imagine Dragons.

With a Singer/Songwriter of the Year win at the New England Music Awards and a resume that includes performing for NASCAR and ESPN, Amanda McCarthy is no longer “looking for the light”—she’s bringing it with her.
