What would you be doing right now if it weren’t for your music career?

If I wasn’t doing music right now, I would continue doing the other things that I do which are speaking, working on my book, and using Red Songbird foundation to help people. I also have a positive show idea that I would like to do.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Ed Sheeran. He is an incredible songwriter, musician, producer, and singer. He is unapologetically himself.

What’s the best show you’ve ever played?

When my grandfather was in the memory care unit, we were all visiting him, and my mom asked me if I would sing for the clients there. I ended up singing some old Standards. People that couldn’t speak or didn’t react were singing the songs with me. When I was finished singing, they were back to not being able to speak or react. It was the most incredible experience I’ve ever had, singing.

What’s the worst show you’ve ever played?

Years ago, when I was living hand mouth, I did a gig in a cigar bar. The accompanist did something wrong and blasted my left ear with a high-pitched sound, thank God I don’t have permanent damage from it. But also, I couldn’t talk for a few days because of all that smoke.

Do you have a ritual of sorts when writing and thinking about your music?

I try not to judge myself and to let myself just be creative. I also believe in going over what has been written and making it sound the best possible. I used to be so hard on myself and never be satisfied with what I created. They’re still times that I do that and I have to step away from it and then hear it later to appreciate it. I can be so self critical and it’s an act of self-care not to be

How do artists in this industry maintain their competitive edge amidst intense competition? What is the secret to making yourself noticed?

I think it’s important to not think about the competition. It is vital to create from who I am. There are amazing artists out there that nobody knows about, and I wish they did. They are also people that are doing very well in the industry that have happened to be very smart business people. It’s important that I focus on what I can do and that there’s only one me. And if people are in a group, then it’s ideal to focus on what they’re creating for their sound.

Of your own music, do you have a favorite? If so, can you pin down why?

We did a song in 2019, along with the music video, for my friend Ann Blake, called, “Fight To The Other Side”. She had been diagnosed with a very rare form of muscular dystrophy and had attempted suicide a total of seven times. They had put her on medication that was very addictive and not good for her mentally at all. She attempted suicide 7 times over the course of 9 months. When we presented that song and music video to her, she decided to live life and has dedicated her life to helping others who are hurting. Because of her example she was invited to meet Prince Harry. We were featured in the Sunday express and on the BBC. She now has a book called, “A Legacy of Love”. She and her husband, Kevin are two of the most incredible human beings I’ve ever known. Kevin retired seven years early and lost 40% of his pension so he could bathe his wife and dress his wife, he went to the department store and learned how to apply her make up. Just beautiful love between them.

Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video? Online Shows?

We will be releasing a video also when we do the release. Right now, we are still getting a lot of traction from the song released in March, called, “Woman to Woman”. The video can be found on YouTube and the song can be downloaded and streamed.

What are your musical plans for the next 12 months or so?

We will be releasing a song about making the rest of your life the best of your life, it’s upbeat and fun and it’s written with Grammy, award-winning songwriter and producer, Damon Sharpe and the incredible Justin Tranter, who was nominated for songwriter of the year in 2024.

Could you please share with us your most unique talent or party trick?

I like to laugh at my own jokes, which many times I’m the only one laughing:-D

If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?

To give people that don’t have a conscience, a conscience.

In the event of a shipwreck on a deserted island, which two non-essential items would you prioritize?

Chocolate and a way to listen to and create music.

What would you do if you had to work but didn’t need the money?

Everything I’m doing right now. Singing, speaking, helping the hurting with my foundation. One other thing is rescuing animals. I love them so much.

What makes you nostalgic

When I think about the people that have walked me through so much and loved me until I could love myself.  Some are no longer here. The indelible impact they made on my life remains a part of me.
