Hailing from the cultural hodgepodge of Broward County, Florida, Talkless is a singer and tattoo artist who uses his music as a conduit to explore complex topics of heartbreak, romance, mental health, addiction, and anti-authority.

What first got you into music?

The money. [laughs] No I’m joking I wish. To be honest I don’t really know. It’s something I’ve always really loved. I’ve been doing it professionally for five years and it’s been going pretty well so I’m going to keep at it.

Who inspired you to make music?

I’d probably say, my dad. He always pushed me to do whatever I liked and he’s been super supportive. He doesn’t make music but he has listened to the same BeeGees songs for the last 30 years so I’d say he has good taste.

What would you be doing right now if it weren’t for your music career?

I’d be tattooing… or selling used cars. Definitely glad to not know what that’s like right now.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Oh, I have a good one! Never be a full cup. I heard that from a homeless man. It basically means don’t think that you know it all. Always have a half cup so that you can always receive more.

How would you describe your music?

Terrible. [laughs] I guess that’s for everyone to find out. I don’t really like to give my music a name or like a place. I kind of just make it and see where it goes. No labels.

Who are your top two favorite artists of all time? Why those artists?

That’s a really hard question. The first thing that comes to my head is Bloc Party and The Kooks. I love Bloc Party’s emotional but still aggressive approach to their songs. I just really love their music. I don’t know I don’t want to sit here and be a music journalist about it they’re just really great. [laughs] And The Kooks are just like a genius. I’m sure everyone’s heard their music it speaks for itself.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

The freedom. Being able to just like run around, work on projects, get to make stuff that you see in your head and then bring it to life. Not having to be constricted with your creativity. I mean it’s still a job, but definitely the freedom.

What are your musical plans for the next 12 months or so?

Just record as much music as I can and put together an album that makes sense with songs that correlate with each other. I think now, all the music I make is kind of all over the place, not really knowing where I was going with it, so I want to get more organized. I really want to focus on making a really conceptual album.

“The track is about being in a super toxic relationship, not being able to understand somebody so you constantly feel like you’re playing mind games,” shares Talkless. “Through this song, I want to encourage people to listen to their gut and follow their own intuition about people so they don’t end up feeling trapped in such a toxic situation.”

What is the most useless talent you have?

Talking. Supposedly, I’m great at speaking but I don’t like speaking to people so it might be a talent that’s useful to some but useless to me. [laughs]

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Lots of Britney Spears. Lots of Lil Wayne too. Bangers only.

What would be a good theme song for your life?

That’s a crazy question. I literally can’t think of any theme songs now.

If you were a member of the Spice Girls, what would your spice handle be?

Who the fuck are the Spice Girls?! I gotta search them up. Do they already have Spicy? I’m Spicy Spice. How haven’t they thought of that already?
