What first got you into music?
Both of my parents are musical so I grew up with music always being a big part of my household. They now perform in my band, which is really special. My husband is my lead guitarist, my mom is my background singer, and my dad is my bass player.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
My music is often described as country arena rock! Music with lots of energy and a big sound and feeling.
Is there a city or venue that holds special significance to you, and can you share a memorable experience from there?
The Trucker and Country Festival in Interlaken, Switzerland. 2 years ago, I performed as the opener there. In 30 years, an opener never filled the tent, and we were forewarned to not feel disappointed with a sparse crowd. When I walked out on stage, the entire tent was packed. It was such an incredible moment in my career that really made me think about the journey. I reflected on singing some of those same songs to just a handful of people in local bars years ago when my career started, but now there were thousands singing the words with me. By the time we left Switzerland, every release I had put out within the last few years had charted in the country.
Do you have any rituals before you hit the stage? If so, what are they?
I go over all my lyrics and do my saline nebulizer to make sure my voice is nice and hydrated! I also really need to sit in silence to get in the right headspace.
If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?
Shania Twain. I’m such a huge fan, and she was one of my biggest inspirations growing up.
If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?
I always wanted to read minds, but I’m sure that would be a gift and a curse! I am brutally honest, and I always wished other people were as transparent with their thoughts!
What two nonessential items would you want if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island?
My yoga mat and guitar!
What would you do if you had to work but didn’t need the money?
Animal rescue. I am a huge animal lover and advocate and have a disabled dog with 2 prosthetic legs.
