“On a Different Wave!” is Madelline’s classy way of saying fuck you to the people who dragged me down, and that she’s doing better than ever without them.
When she was younger, Madelline worked with incredibly controlling and suffocating men in music who wanted to keep her low to hold power over her. They were trying to control Madelline’s art and tell her what she could and couldn’t do with it. It took her a while to realize what was happening. They wanted to keep Madelline feeling small to feed their egos. This song is about distancing and removing herself from their universe.
Don’t let people who belittle and undermine you convince you that you’re a lesser version of yourself. Cut them out and hone into the power of you, and all the beauty you have to offer this world.
