Can you share the story behind your journey as a singer-songwriter?
Music has been a part of my life since I was five, but it wasn’t until my early twenties that I realized it was my true calling. I felt a deep connection between my music and my purpose, not just in performing or writing, but in seeing how my songs could make people feel something.
It hit me when I began performing more seriously and felt the emotional impact on audiences. I had the opportunity to perform at events like RCMP sunset ceremonies, CFL Redblacks game, and for the Ottawa Marathon during Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekends. Music became more than an outlet—it was a way to connect on a deeper level. The energy in the room, the stories in my lyrics—it all made me realize this was my path. As I wrote, performed, and explored my voice, it became clear I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

A turning point in my music journey was when I started collaborating with my producer, Lynx. What inspired you to start writing music, and how has your style evolved over the years?
My inspiration to start writing music came from a combination of my love for storytelling, exploring with my writing and my desire to process my own emotions. Growing up, I was always drawn to songs that were deep and told stories and conveyed reel and raw emotions. I would listen to artists such as Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Micheal Jackson, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, and I found comfort and appreciation in the way their music could put into words exactly what I was feeling. It’s like they were talking to me.
I then started writing my own music during my teenage years. Writing was a form of release for me, and a way for me to process my feelings. I began by humming simple melodies, and then writing lyrics that spoke about my own personal experiences, and would sing them to my friends and family.
As I got older and evolved as an artist, my style began to change as I was drawn to new genres and lived through new life experiences. Lyrically, I began to explore even deeper, on topics such as self-love, societal issues and difficulties and how to overcome them, faith, hope and self-discovery. My producer Lynx played a key role in helping me bring these ideas to life, taking my lyrics and building off the melodies to help me create the perfect sound.
In terms of my style today, I still value powerful, heartfelt lyrics, but now I’m also more open to experimenting with different arrangements, textures, and genres. I don’t think I’ll ever stop evolving as a songwriter because life is constantly changing, and so is the music I create. I thrive to capture a feeling, a moment, a message that resonates deeply with others, just like the music I grew up to did for me.
Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
My biggest musical influences are definitely Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston. These women are true icons, and they all share one incredible thing in common—unbelievable vocal ability. I’ve always admired how they use their voices not just to sing, but to express their raw and authentic emotions.
Mariah Carey’s range speaks for itself. The way she can effortlessly switch between vocal registers has always amazed me.
Celine Dion’s passion, realness and control over her voice are something I’ve always admired. The way she is able to belt with such power and intensify, and yet still make it sound so effortless and graceful, never ceases to amaze me.
Then, there’s Whitney Houston, whose voice was just so timeless. She combined power, strength and soul in her songs, which is something that continues to inspire me today. Whitney showed me how to take a song and completely make it my own, and to embrace my vulnerability.
Each of these women has truly shaped my sound and the artist I am today, as well as the way I approach singing and songwriting. I try to master emotional depth, vocal precision and authenticity in everything I create, just as they have taught me.
Can you tell us about the themes or messages in your latest songs?
The central theme in my song Feel is about emotional vulnerability and authenticity. It speaks to those who close up and suppress their emotions and their feelings, and particularly for those who feel pressured to hide their true selves. The lyrics encourage embracing feelings, emphasizing that expressing emotion, and more importantly being sensitive, is not a weakness but quite the contrary, a sign of strength.
I have another song called Triumphant that speaks to collective strength in the face of adversity. It highlights the pain and suffering in the world, but rather than focusing on despair, it emphasizes unity and perseverance. The song is hopeful, reinforcing the idea that together, we can rise above challenges and build a brighter future, a brighter tomorrow. Its main themes are survival, resilience, and the power of community.
Another one of my songs called Little Girl explores themes such as empowerment. It encourages self-belief, urging the listener to overcome the pain caused by other people’s negativity, words, and to take control of their own destiny. The song resonates with the message that no one knows you better than yourself, and only you have the strength to break free from limiting expectations and past constraints.
I have a song called Like A Snake that explores themes of self-assurance, and unapologetic confidence. The metaphor of a snake symbolizes transformation and shedding old layers to embrace a more powerful version of oneself. It speaks to owning one’s unique qualities, being unpredictable, and captivating others with strength, your mind and emotional intelligence. The song conveys the idea of embracing who you are and how it can mesmerize and empower others.
Finally, I also have a song called Yearning Cries that is about the transformative power of faith—how surrendering to God’s love can heal emotional wounds, guide through darkness, and restore one’s sense of purpose. The lyrics reflect the experience of feeling lost and broken, yet being embraced by divine mercy and grace, leading to spiritual renewal and strength. The repetitive Trust in you” lyrics reinforces the theme of surrendering to divine will, finding hope, and discovering one’s true worth through faith.
In sum, these songs each convey messages of faith, personal growth, the power of emotional expression, and the strength that comes from embracing one’s true authentic self. They encourage listeners to stand strong, be authentic, and rise above life’s challenges.
What was the creative process like for your upcoming music?
One of my upcoming songs is called Change the World. I collaborated with two producers on this song, Roy Hamilton III and Lynx. They both brought their talent and vision to the table, helping shape the sound and energy of the song, making it even more powerful and impactful. The creative process was inspired by a deep desire for unity and transformation. I wanted to write something that encourages people to come together, face adversity, and strive for a better future, for a better tomorrow. The lyrics stemmed from seeing the struggles and injustices around us and feeling compelled to create a call to action—reminding us that we hold the power to make a real difference. It’s about igniting that spark of hope, strength, and love, with the belief that collectively, we can do better, come together and change the world.
Are there any specific experiences or events that inspired your new album?
Yes, a lot of my EP is inspired by both personal experiences and global events. The challenges faced during the Covid pandemic and the ongoing disasters around the world really shaped some of my songs, highlighting the resilience and strength we all need to overcome adversity. I wanted to capture the raw emotion of those times and the power of unity and hope.
Additionally, growing up and at times not feeling understood, especially by certain influences, sparked a lot of the themes in my music. Those feelings of being misunderstood led me to explore topics like self-discovery, empowerment, and the importance of embracing who we truly are. It’s about finding strength in vulnerability and realizing that, despite the challenges, we have the power to overcome them.
One particular song called Yearning Cries was a hard one to write but it was so liberating at the same time. I wrote it in light of a difficult time in my life when I found myself in despair, questioning everything. In those moments of struggle, I turned to faith, and this song came from that raw emotion—begging for guidance and feeling lost, but ultimately finding hope and strength in surrender.
How do you approach songwriting—do you start with lyrics, melody, or something else?
I approach songwriting like painting on a blank canvas—sometimes it starts with a feeling, a melody, or even a word that sparks an idea and that I build on. I often start by listening to meditation music, which helps clear my mind and unlock the creative flow. Once that energy is sparked, the melody comes to me, followed by the lyrics. It becomes a story that speaks to the heart. I let the music guide me to where it needs to go, and then magic is created.
