In the realm of modern rock, few acts command the stage with as much visceral, unadulterated cool as The Darts. Known for their signature blend of garage-rock grit and ’60s girl-group soul, the all-female powerhouse is back to haunt your speakers with their latest single, “Midnight Creep.”

If you haven’t yet experienced the spell cast by Nicole Laureene (vocals/Farfisa), Rebecca Davison (guitar), Lindsay Scarey (bass), and  Rikki Styxx (drums), “Midnight Creep” is your invitation into their smoky, neon-lit world. It’s a track that doesn’t just play; it prowls. Built on a foundation of thumping percussion and a bassline that vibrates in your chest, the song is punctuated by Laureene’s iconic Farfisa hits—the kind of psych-rock stabs that feel both vintage and dangerously current.

The Aesthetic: Spooky-Kitten Energy

The Darts have carved out a niche that Divine readers will find irresistible: an aesthetic that marries high-fashion “spooky-kitten” energy with the raw intensity of a punk basement show. On “Midnight Creep,” the vocals are sharp yet honeyed, delivering a soulful performance that feels like a midnight drive through a desert landscape. It’s the perfect anthem for the night-dwellers and the rule-breakers.

A Global Movement

Rising from the underground to international acclaim, The Darts have spent the last decade proving that rock ‘n’ roll is far from dead—it just needed a bit more fuzz and a lot more swagger. From their legendary live shows (where Laureene is known to play her organ while literally wearing it on the floor) to their consistent string of infectious hits, the band remains a beacon for inclusive, high-octane creativity.

“Midnight Creep” is more than just a single; it’s a mood. Whether you’re gearing up for a night out or looking for the perfect track to fuel your creative fire, The Darts have delivered the ultimate soundtrack for the modern rebel.

What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened at one of your shows?

Nicole: We played Gonerfest 2025 in Memphis. The stage was right next to the train tracks. As we finished a song, a train went by, blowing its horn at exactly the same time as the last note and in the right key. We were all stunned, and the audience lost it.

If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

Nicole: Probably The Hives or Amyl and The Sniffers. I think their fans would like us, and the exposure would be madness.

Do you have any other plans relating to this release?

Nicole: Halloween Love Songs comes out on March 3, but the first single and video, “Midnight Creep,” will air on January 13. The second single will air on February 3. Following the album release, we will embark on another massive tour spanning the USA, Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, and
more. Another video is in the works for one of the ballads on the record.

What inspires your writing? Do you draw inspiration from poems, music, TV, or other media?

Nicole: Everything inspires me, but primarily my own perspective on things around me and my perpetually-challenging love life. I try to keep lyrics for The Darts kind of spooky but not too dark, humorous but not too light. There is definitely a message in every song that comes right from my heart.

Do you enjoy recording and production?

Nicole: I have had to learn it and learn to love it in order to get my ideas out the way I hear them in my head. No one else is in my head! So it’s far more efficient to just do a lot of pre-production on my demos myself—meaning I will write all the parts, choose all the effects, make the edits, etc.—and then present that finished demo to the band and our producers than to try to explain it to them. The system has worked really well for many years, in my opinion. But it has forced me to buckle down and learn just enough GarageBand to really make things sound finished.

What’s your favorite sports team, and why?

Nicole: My whole family attended The University of Michigan, so we are all die-hard Wolverines football fans. I even used to play piccolo in the marching band and traveled a lot doing that. Those were some of the best years of my life, and probably helped spark my love of touring around playing music.

Are you a cat or dog person?

Nicole: We didn’t have pets growing up, but as an adult I discovered that having a cat is pretty cool. I like independent creatures that aren’t very needy but are still good for a cuddle once in a while. Now I tour way too much to have a pet.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

Nicole: As tempting as it would be to see the future, I am a bit cynical that there will be very much good stuff to see there, unfortunately. So I would probably head backwards. I am obsessed with time-travel
movies, especially if there is a good love story built in. Going to the past and getting to really immerse in a different time is a dream. It would be super hard to choose the time period, though.

What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?

Nicole: Thai panang curry with tofu or a wood-fired margarita pizza.

Which fictional character do you wish was real?

Nicole: Kyle Reese from The Terminator, the ultimate romantic.
