What first got you into music?
I think it really started in high school. I had this very cool punk friend Claire (so cool, blue spiky hair, a jean jacket with a ramones patch on the back, badass), and she took me busking. I didn’t even know what busking was; I just went along with it. She played acoustic guitar on the street and then handed it to me out of nowhere and told me to play something. The only song I knew was swing life away by rise against, so I played it right there on a busy Toronto street. That was my first time performing in front of strangers. and it felt GOOD. Afterwards, Claire looked at me and said, “you’re a natural.” Maybe she was just being nice, but I believed her. That moment changed everything. I went busking every day that summer and never really stopped doing music.
What is your creative process like?
Always in pink ableton! i just mess around until something clicks. Sometimes it starts with sampling something weird or a weird loop. then i just keep layering stuff until it makes sense. When I’m working on DANGER SPOON, I’ll write and track vocals myself, chop my vocals up, and pitch them all over the place. Sometimes I get way too into building percussion that sounds like metal and glass hitting concrete.
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
First off, it’s not just music — it’s a whole weird world. Everything lives inside the SPOON PHARMACEUTICALS universe: a retro-futuristic, hyper-capitalist mega-corp trying to “cure” emotions like [THE ANGER], [THE DEFIANCE], and [THE MEMORIES] with experimental treatments that are maybe… not super tested. I play DANGER SPOON, your assigned Dose-Giver, running an unauthorized [HYPERPOPs]® trial live on stage. The shows are part concert, part fever dream — hospital gowns, wristbands, pharmaceutical ads, glitchy visuals, bubble guns, Beyblades, and raising spoons in unison.
Sonically, it’s hyperpop but also not—I blend emo and metal guitars, industrial percussion, distortion and pitched vocals, and random samples (recognize the metal pipe sound in icu <3 ??). Everything feels a little bit broken and chaotic but still heartfelt and earnest and a little cringey!
What does your music say about you?
That I am a mess, but I will turn it into something cool, lmao. This whole project is kind of me in a nutshell — chaotic, sick (literally), a little cringey, but holding onto hope and fighting through it anyway. I grew up in poverty, lost my dad when I was 19, almost died from lupus and kidney failure, and now I take more pills every day than most people take in a year. i spend most of my time bouncing between being super sick and building a fictional pharmaceutical mega-corp or producing in pink ableton
Danger Spoon and the world of SPOON PHARMACEUTICALS is how I process all of that — loss, anxiety, chronic illness, and feeling like you’re falling apart but still trying to make something beautiful and absurd out of it. I think it says that I’m scrappy and obsessive, but also still having fun with it. I write and produce all the music myself, design the visuals, make the ads, build the world, shoot the videos, program the lights… all from my little apartment. It’s DIY, maximalist, and built on late nights and long days, a billion browser tabs, and caffeine.
icu <3 is the first taste of that — a reminder that yeah, life is hard, but you’re not alone. We can be anxious, sad, and overwhelmed and still dream big, feel big, and laugh at how ridiculous it all is.
What draws you to your preferred genre?
I love hyperpop because it’s maximalist and absurd and emotional and playful. It’s not afraid to be too much, and neither am I. I’m a metalcore and emocore kid at heart, so screaming your cringey feelings was already in my blood — hyperpop just lets me do that but with fun production, disgusting snares, glitch sounds, and 808s. feeling every feeling at 200%. It feels like the inside of my brain.

Undoubtedly 100 gecs. I want to be on the most unhinged lineup of all time. also brakence. Also bring me bring me the horizon. Also Porter Robinson. I have too many answers, sorry!!
If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?
Right now it’s got focal trio 6 studio monitors, a lynx aurora, neve 1073, api 3124, ua 1176, and a super rare adr compex comp. vocal booth with a neumann m149. guitars everywhere — my pink aristides, a 7-string mayones, a 50’s fender tele, a ‘77 jazz bass. but also… a bookshelf full of sci-fi, Nintendo plushies, board games, a claw machine in the corner, neon cowboy frog, a lava lamp from the 90’s, and of course pink ableton glowing on a curved screen. basically a spaceship run by a creature (me) who loves gear, video games, and storytelling.
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?
“my dad died so he didn’t have to see my dying: a story of survival, perseverance and too much OTT”
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
pharmaceutical pink. It’s kind of pretty, kind of suspicious, and probably cures something, but you shouldn’t ask too many questions.

The Wii Sports theme but produced by Sophie? or the Windows XP startup sound but pitched down, distorted, and auto-tuned? oooor my unreleased single, “sick of being sick” ????
