Michelle Núñez emerges as a powerful new voice in music with the release of her debut single, “making the most of it,” a cinematic ballad that threads loss, resilience, and radical self-honesty into a sonic tapestry of ambient textures and tender emotion.
The song acts as both diary and meditation, documenting Núñez’s internal dialogue as she sifts through the debris of a broken relationship, ultimately reclaiming the missing pieces of herself. With soft acoustic instrumentals, subtle drum beats, and her smokey, ethereal vocals, Núñez invites listeners into a sonic dreamscape, a slow-motion unraveling that feels like a whisper to the past that never quite left. “It’s about standing in the ruins of something you loved, admitting your role in the unraveling, and still choosing to believe there’s meaning in the mess,” she says.
The accompanying visual, described by Núñez as “a meditation on fleeting beauty, resilience, and how we carry forward even through uncertainty,” captures the essence of her artistic ethos. Whether it be through film, poetry, or song, Michelle Núñez crafts stories that resonate across a vast range of media and emotions, stories that uplift, provoke, and heal. With her haunting vocals and striking honesty, she channels a musical voice grounded in spiritual inquiry and emotional integrity. “making the most of it” is more than her debut; it’s a quietly transformative experience, gently guiding listeners through the fragile beauty of being human and all that comes with it.
Born into a military family of Afro-Dominican descent and shaped by a nomadic upbringing across the U.S. and Germany, Núñez has long used creativity as her compass. A multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles, she brings her storytelling talents from screen and stage into her music with lyrical vulnerability and cinematic nuance. Her breakout performance as Zane in Tyler Perry’s Ruthless brought her acclaim, and she’s since appeared alongside stars like Phillipa Soo and Niecy Nash in projects ranging from Doctor Odyssey to The Rookie: Feds. Still, music has always been a quiet undercurrent as a love letter to life, grief, and her late baby sister. Now, with the guidance of producer Yoosuf Blake, “making the most of it” marks her first official release, with a visual poem shot on 16mm film along the coast of Costa Rica by cinematographer Mack Fisher.
