Father-son bonding has proven over time to be crucial in every man’s life. There are numerous life lessons a young man can learn only through one-on-one time with his father, even if his dad isn’t trying to teach him anything at the time. That doesn’t mean a father and son should sit and talk about life all the time, but find a subject or a project they are both passionate about, and go at it. But what interests do the two generations share, and how to find the right activity to bond with your son? It’s hard to find adventures you’ll both enjoy, and that’s why we’re here to help.

Being a Team Fan Is a Long-Lasting Family Tradition

If you root for a team or a player, chances are your son is going to like the same one because he wants to be like you. Sports are a great opportunity and one of the easiest ways to bond with your young ones. Sitting in front of the TV and talking about it is cool, but going to the game brings the experience to a whole different level.

Once you put your jerseys on and see thousands of people wearing your team colors, you’ll have something to reminisce about for weeks to come. You can try to get an autograph or a picture that your kid will keep for the rest of his life. Most of us remember the first game we ever went to or that the one with a game-winner or a home run because moments like that are hard to forget.

For Bonding, Try Taking a Trip Together

Working to provide for your family is essential, and congrats to you for doing it, but it can get you in a rut sometimes. Overworking gets you tired and makes you only want to relax and sleep once you get home, which can diminish the relationship you have with your kids.

Try taking some time off to give yourself rest, and use that time to bond with your son, and go on a trip together. You get a few days off, and you get to spend some time with your successor. The best location for your trip depends on how old your son is and how you plan to spend your time vacating. If your kid is all grown up and over 21, maybe Vegas can be fun?

On the other hand, if he is still very young, Disneyworld is a can’t-miss. If you’re trying to find the middle ground, go for something like a Scottsdale extended stay. That’s where you can find resorts with luxury pools both you and your son can enjoy. It’s close to Phoenix, and you can drive there pretty quickly and check out the city’s landmarks. Arizona has a wide range of attractions to offer, from hiking in the mountains to historical museums. Kids get bored quickly, so switching things up is a good plan.

    Fishing Teaches Patience

There aren’t many angry and impatient fishermen out there, and there’s a reason for that. Going out, putting the bait, and waiting, sometimes for hours, is hard work and takes a lot of composure and timing. Getting the catch of the day often requires some wait and patience. Sometimes it’s like that in life, too. The best things require patience. And that’s what you can teach your son while you are in the middle of the lake trying to get the reward for all your hard work.

Learn about Discipline and Respect through Mixed Martial Arts

MMA had a bad rep for a while, but in the last few years, it has been the fastest-growing sport in the world, and there’s a reason. MMA fighters continually keep proving the world that they are not bullies, but athletes who work on their craft day in and day out. Going to an MMA gym can teach both you and your son about respect.

The appreciation for the gym, coaches, and teammates in an MMA gym surpasses anything you can see in any “regular” sports. By trying, failing, then trying again, you can learn a lot about ego and how to deal with it, which is something fighters do regularly. Alongside that, you can learn self-defense and gain confidence and responsibility. MMA coaches can teach your kid to relieve all frustrations in the octagon, thus avoiding any confrontations outside the gym.
