Ben Hemming releases new E.P. Resurrection

Ben Hemming, at the forefront of the U.K. Nu-Blues scene, released new E.P. ‘Resurrection on June 2nd, ahead of an album out for release next year.

Continuing the excellent track record of the last few years of records, namely ‘Broken Road’, and last years ‘Marked Man’. Ben Hemming has been busy in the studio creating a release full of Rock, Blues, and a sprinkling of Americana.

“The E.P. was a good chance for me to put something out for my fans to enjoy before my alum next year. As the title suggests the release is about rebirth and having the courage to pick yourself up and fight again in the face of adversity, the religious connotations acting as a metaphor for life’s struggles in the modern world.”

Recorded at Masterlink Productions, a studio located in rural Woking just outside of London, with producer James Welsh at the controls, the recording process acted as a ‘safe haven’ away from the distractions of city life and gave a real focus and direction to the music.

“I feel I’ve surrounded myself with people who understand what I’m trying to achieve in my music. It’s a safe environment that has really helped develop my songwriting to the next level. I guess I found the self-belief I’ve been looking for.’’

‘Resurrection’ is a release filled with meaning and song writing craft, and a real monument for the development of Ben Hemming’s maturity as an artist.

    Track List

    1. The End
    2. Baptise Me
    3. Holy For A Day
    4. Born To Die
    5. The Devil’s Dance

    Track By Track Overview

The End – The End is a track that really stands out for me, in the production we really tried hard to a get a rock sound that’s at the heart of what I do. Simplistic but yet compelling at the same time. It’s a song about the futility of life and how at one hand the world seems against you, and the next everything seemed to be going your way. Things really can change that quickly with the right attitude I believe.

Baptise Me – This is a song that I wrote really quickly, in a few hours really, it just sort of poured out of me. It uses the topic of religion as it’s base, but it speaks in a wider form than just that. It’s rooted in a lot of issues I had growing up and coming to terms with what it is to be a man.

Holy For A Day – The song started with a bluesy riff that is at it’s core and grew from that really. With the lyrics I wanted to weave a story that was in keeping with the tracks vibe and style, a tail of rising up from the gutter and facing up to what it means to be alive in today’s consumer led society.

Born To Die – An ode too lost and forgotten dreams ‘Born To Die’ tells the tail of a man lost in a world lacking in meaning and purpose. A slide guitar underpins and acoustic riff than runs throughout a song full of emotion and pain the tradition of the classic country artists of the past.

‘This is a new blues’ Americana UK

The Devil’s Dance – The song evolved from the opening cords, which mark a slightly different tone to previous tracks. There’s defiantly more of an Americana vide with this one, with the acoustic guitar taking more of a central role.
