The moment you start driving your car is the moment when it begins to fall apart. Having to deal with and fix common car maintenance problems is an everyday consideration, from flat tires to faulty brakes to even just keeping the gas tank full.

You need to be on top of the problems plaguing your vehicle and fix them before they turn into serious and damaging issues. If you ignore them, they could grow into devastating hazards that can put you and other motorists at risk.

    Shaking Steering Wheel

A steering wheel that shakes can be a sign of several different issues with your vehicle. One of those possibilities can be an uneven distribution of weight between your tires. Even half an ounce of difference can cause your steering wheel to shake, eventually leading to the entire cabin shaking. Other possibilities include damage to your suspension or tire misalignment.

    Worn Tires

Tires are the cause of and solution to many car troubles. If they have excessive wear or shallow treads, then your vehicle’s handling will suffer due to a lack of traction. Replace tires that are old and past the point of safety with newer and more reliable ones, as worn-out tires can also affect braking distance on top of handling.

    Weather Considerations

As bad as worn-out tires are on their own, they are far more dangerous in hazardous weather conditions. If there is snow, ice, or rainwater on the road, your car can quickly lose control. One of the most common causes of traction loss is hydroplaning. There are ways to deal with hydroplaning safely, but the best solution is to drive on fresh tires with deep treads.

    Aging Battery

Because it is out of sight more often than not, batteries are easy to forget about until they die. In a standard vehicle, a battery’s typical lifespan is roughly 50,000 miles or about three to six years. It can still function after that threshold, but its reliability reduces significantly. A few of the early warning signs of a dying battery include:

    • The engine is slow to start.
    • The lights of your car are dim.
    • The battery connectors are corroded.

    Solve Problems Before They Happen

Many of the issues that you will experience with your car will be the product of slow degradation. That means that things will not immediately fail without warning; there will be signs that you can pick up on. Look for those signs of common car maintenance problems, and fix your car before it falls into an irreparable condition.
