Acclaimed Irish poet Danielle Holian has released her highly anticipated fourth poetry collection, Growing Pains, out now. Following her previous works Beautifully Chaotic (2019), The Dilemma (2020), and Surviving You (2021), the new collection delivers a raw and unflinching exploration of surviving a toxic relationship and rebuilding identity in its aftermath.

Spanning more than five years of lived experience, Growing Pains traces the emotional trajectory of a relationship marked by control and harm. Through a series of candid and reflective poems, Holian documents the journey from early idealization to disillusionment, and ultimately toward healing and self-reclamation.

“This book is a map of a love that broke me, and the strength it took to put myself back together,” Holian said.

The collection is structured into five thematic sections—Honeymoon, Handcuffs, Hangover, Hindsight, and Homecoming—each representing a distinct phase of the relationship and its emotional consequences. From the hopefulness of new love to the emergence of control, the fallout of betrayal, reflective clarity, and the quiet return to self, Holian’s work offers an intimate portrayal of resilience.

Known for her emotionally honest and accessible style, Holian frequently explores themes of love, loss, trauma, and psychological recovery. In addition to her poetry, she works across music and storytelling, blending written and visual media to capture contemporary emotional experiences.

Growing Pains stands as a powerful new release from one of Ireland’s emerging poetic voices—a story of survival, reflection, and the courage to return home to oneself.
