Meet Deus Ego (deɪ.ʊs iːɡoʊ)—the brainchild of Sif and Omen, two musical visionaries with a self-aware God complex and a mission to “heal the world” one beat at a time. If you’ve ever wandered through a garden centre and wished the soundtrack was as uplifting as the blooms around you, Deus Ego is the answer: their music is the ultimate wellness playlist, fusing electrifying synths with infectious energy.

Sif and Omen’s creative partnership began back in 2017 at university, where a shared love of genre-bending sounds set them on a path of musical exploration. Through years of experimentation, their synths have grown bolder and their hooks sharper, evolving into the signature alternative synth-pop style that defines Deus Ego today. But don’t box them in—Deus Ego thrives on reinvention, refusing to be confined to a single sound or mood.

How would you define your unique musical style?

A violent mash up of indie, hyperpop, electronic music, and rock, not always equal! Sometimes we lean heavily into more hyperpop/alt pop, and sometimes we lean into even the world of grunge.

Is there a live show that stands out as truly unforgettable for you?

We are very lucky in the 2020s that there are so many excellent gigs to go to. Fontaines DC’s tour last year was a highlight; we also went to see an underground artist called Gao The Arsonist earlier this year, which was an absolute blast.

How do you handle stage nerves—has your approach changed over time?

We try and just not think too much beforehand; just move your legs, get on stage, and do it. We both ‘gas’ each other up and I think that gets us over any stage nerves really!

Can you walk us through your creative process when writing or producing music?

It’s highly collaborative; we bounce ideas between us all the time. Take our latest single, ‘SEEN IN THE NIGHT’ for example. That track started as something completely different that went nowhere really, but then over Christmas last year we bounced the idea between us some more, and it became something completely new. Then, as lyrics develop, the arrangement changes, and Joe does some absolute genius production. That tends to be the creative process for us, but sometimes it’s a lot faster. Our first single, ‘Cut the Fat!’, came together really quickly, over just a few weeks.

If you could open for any musician or band, who would you choose?

Probably either Porter Robinson, Dijon, or Willow Kayne. Do three-sided coins exist? It’s one for the coin flip.

What’s the core message you hope fans take away from your music?

Whatever the song, it’s all about the vibes. There’s context to the songs, obviously, and they are written on topics, but the main thing I’d want fans to take away is the vibe.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone breaking into the industry today?

Keep pushing; you need an almost unapologetic drive to keep the pressure up, but whilst doing this, don’t forget the reason you are making music in the first place.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Drop the big ego out of the industry; it’s behind the majority of the problems within the industry that still exist. Obviously we are two guys making music out of Salford, so we aren’t on the receiving end of music industry-related misogyny or other prejudices, but it’s still very apparent at times within the industry, and there should be no place for it.

Do you have any upcoming releases, videos, or shows fans should know about?

Our last single, ‘SEEN IN THE NIGHT’, was released on the 24th October, and we have our debut live show on the 28th November at the Eagle Inn in Salford, which is very, very exciting for us, and we can’t wait.

???? Section 2 – Fun & Personality

What’s your take on garden gnomes—love them or leave them?

I actually went through a phase of buying Joe a collection of rude garden gnomes at every opportunity I could, he’s got a row of them in his flat, and every time I try and one-up the previous one.

Are you more of a cat person, dog person, or both?

Cat 100%, no disrespect to dogs at all though, as I do love dogs, but I’ve got two cats, Basil and Bamzooki, and they are little terrors, but you can’t say no to a little cat’s face, can you?

If you had to describe yourself as a flavor, what would you be?

Chalk

Would you rather be the hero or the villain with the best lines

Brits make great villains in films, so I’d have to say villain, but a proper villain like Hannibal or something with dialogue like Agent Smith in The Matrix.

What’s something that always makes you feel nostalgic?

Weird answer, but the Worms games from around 2005-ish stuck with me forever. I and my dad used to play them on his home computer when I was a little kid. I found them in my parents’ loft a few years ago and played them again for hours.
