You may know Linkcon Prezzy Demetrius as one of Montreal’s top connectors behind the scenes. Or perhaps you know him as the A&R guy with an eye for new talent—the excitable strategist always working to build bridges between artists, and opportunities.
However it is you know the founder of Driven Paper, or if this is your first time being introduced, here’s one thing you need to know: Link cares about his artists and the work he does deeply—and it’s reflected in everything he does, including the collective’s new mixtape, NEXT. You can stream here.
After stepping away from the industry and returning in 2022, his re-entry wasn’t about picking up where things left off. It was about reimagining the system entirely.
NEXT is both a personal comeback and a statement. A globally curated mixtape pulling voices from Montreal, Atlanta, Accra, and beyond, NEXT captures the independent voices from around the world and compiles it into a mixtape that features over a dozen different genres. Today, that mixtape is released.
We chat with Link about studying the industry from every angle, transitioning from label owner to consultant, what it’s like in the festival trenches to negotiating major distribution partnerships. Take a look.
What is your current music project about?
Most of you know me for my years as an A&R, but this project is personal. My comeback in 2022 wasn’t just about returning to the scene—it was about rebuilding it with purpose. After watching from the sidelines for five years, I’ve returned with the resources and the Sony partnership needed to break the cycle and open doors for the next generation. “Next” is my first offering and a testament to the talent I’ve connected with from the blocks of Montreal and Atlanta to Accra and beyond.
What first got you into music?
I’ve always wanted to dip into the entertainment scene for years. I studied and self taught myself the basics of being a record label owner, booking agent, studio manager, copywriter, publisher, PR and more. I had broken my knee back in 2006 and decided to finally take a breather and take in some new venture and that being the launch of my record label at the time DPC Movements Records. I managed over a dozen artists from different musical backgrounds, models, Dj’s and one of Canada’s top Video Directors Fatty Soprano. I brought fashion, merch and music together under a blueprint that I still work with present day now being an A&R and music consultant.
What’s the funniest things that’s ever happened at one of your shows?
Picture this…Genuwine live in concert in Montreal. The night of the concert comes up. Now it’s hours before the doors open and it’s time to set up the venue. One of my artists at the time shows up to the venue before me and felt the need to give his 2 cents in the set up for the stage lol. Now picture this, Genuine shows up to peep the stage setup…walked in and was so turned off from the setup he literally walked out the venue and never returned to perform. Hours later I see a video surface of one of my artists who was in the middle of jewlery shopping and who pops up in the video lol Genuwine buying new gold jewelry and making jokes in the video….what a moment in time..looking back now I can laugh but at the time was such a vibe kill.
What are your plans for any future releases?
I’ve been thinking about that and considered my next projects will start from my hometown Montreal highlighting on all the incredible talent we have making quality music. Then I’m considering putting together a project of different cities and states touching on the amazing artists I’ve had the pleasure of working with and/or connecting with. As well, there will be several artists I’ll be working with closely so look out for some heavy releases in 2026.
Are you creative in other disciplines?
Absolutely, I’m an entrepreneur with my signature shoes aka The Driven Culture, my signature Custom beard oil for men and my Relaunch of a gender neutral sexy fragrance coming soon. I write for a magazine in Jamaica called Jam Weekly Magazine and more to come with this multi faceted entertainment hub bridging vital industry gaps and bringing creatives together for a common purpose.
What advice would you give your previous boss and why?
I’d let him know never to underestimate the power of networking and having great people and communication skills. Acting like an a** hole to people and expecting respect in return or productivity completes defeats the purpose. People will work better and more effectively when their superiors treat them with respect and uplift while empowering them, it’s simple math.
