Texas instrumental powerhouse EMP, consisting of the formidable trio Alex Erhardt, Nathan Mays, and Maxx Salazar, has unleashed their highly anticipated EP, “Empulsive.”

With a killer style that seamlessly blends progressive rock, jazz, post-punk, and electronic vibes, EMP brings a fresh and unique sound to the table. What sets them apart? The unexpected inclusion of a vibraphone, adding a touch of magic that breaks away from the ordinary.

Since joining forces with Geodesic Records in 2022, “Empulsive” marks EMP’s first major foray into the music scene. This EP serves as a canvas for their diverse musical backgrounds, drawing from punk, heavy metal, and even incorporating some upright bass action from the realm of rock and roll.

The opening track, “Tryst Issues,” kicks off this adventure with a dynamic mix of vibraphone, electric guitar, and lively beats. It’s a punchy introduction that sets the tone for the entire EP, promising a thrilling and adventurous listening experience.

“Four on the Flores” takes a different turn, introducing electro-pop elements and futuristic synth chords that add a cool, contemporary vibe to the mix.

“Dr. Fillgrave” showcases a playful, jazzy side of EMP, with the vibraphone taking center stage once again. The addition of dissonant chords injects an element of tension, keeping listeners on their toes and thoroughly engaged.

What makes “Empulsive” even more intriguing is that all the tracks are not only performed but also written by EMP, except for the curveballs thrown in with “African Flower” and “Song of Storms.” These unexpected covers add a delightful twist to the EP, demonstrating the band’s ability to weave their signature sound into diverse musical landscapes.

Produced by aCr & EMP, with aCr taking charge of mixing and mastering, “Empulsive” is more than just an EP—it’s a labor of love and offers a sneak peek into their world, hinting at the potential for groundbreaking innovation in the instrumental scene.
