Alexa. is a 24 year old singer/songwriter with an innate musical ability. Originally from New York, she has been writing songs since she was ten and singing since she could talk.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your musical background?

Of course! My name is Alexa, and I am a pop singer/songwriter. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. With an immense passion for both music and writing, my connection with music has only grown stronger, and I continue to take every minute to hone in on the craft, falling more in love with the art every single day.

How did you get started in music?

Music has always been a constant in my life. Songwriting became a place of comfort for me, a therapeutic process allowing me to make sense of life’s ups and downs. I felt a sense of belonging in the creativity and knew from a young age that music was it for me.

What was your main source of inspiration as a musician?

As a songwriter, I’ve always felt compelled to share experiences, emotions and stories. As a singer, seeing how a performance can connect so many different people in so many different stages of life have always been a main source of inspiration for me. To put it simply, I love music.

How would you describe your musical style?

My goal is to create music that allows listeners to feel understood and less alone. As I continue to grow as an artist, my sound may evolve, but the heart and core essence of it will forever remain the same. Regardless of how my sound changes through the years, I hope to inspire people in the way that music has inspired me to chase my dreams.

Can you tell us about any memorable or influential musical experiences you’ve had?

From creating in the studio to experiencing the magic of live music, I am fortunate to have been a part of so many incredible musical experiences thus far.

Seeing my favorite artists in concert always provides me with that “this is what I want to do with my life” moment. Going from being in the audience, singing along with thousands of fans to songs that have shaped me, and hearing people now sing the lyrics I wrote back to me is an indescribable feeling, one that I cannot put into words. I will forever be grateful to experience it.

Walk us through your songwriting process.

The songwriting process is ever-changing, and that’s one of the reasons I fell in love with the craft. Sometimes a song comes together within minutes, and other times it starts with a few chords. Sometimes, it just takes a random burst of inspiration at 2am.

What message or emotions do you aim to convey through your music?

Music and songwriting have always provided me with a sense of belonging, and I hope my music can do the same for others. I am always appreciative of the interaction I have with listeners.

How do you approach the creative process when composing a new song?

Creating music is such a special experience. When creating, my main focus is writing an authentic song. Regardless of where the inspiration comes from, I always strive to be genuine in my music. I write music from my heart, and can only hope listeners hear the songs and find some source of comfort within the lyrics and melodies.

Can you talk about any challenges or obstacles you’ve faced as a musician, and how you’ve overcome them?

Challenges are a part of life, both in music and outside of it, but I try to view them as opportunities for growth. Surrounding myself with a supportive network of friends, family, and collaborators has helped me overcome obstacles. Staying true to my passion and connecting with my audience pushes me to continue pursuing my dreams.

10 Can you provide us with the backstory of how ‘I Hate the Space’ came to be?

“i hate the space” delves into the pressure we put on ourselves to have everything figured out, and the difficulty of facing reality when things don’t go as planned. It’s about those moments of feeling alone with the weight of an uncertain future, where immersing ourselves in trivial distractions seems easier than confronting the truth.

It’s easy to feel obligated to have everything together. Getting a minute to yourself means having to face reality, and that means facing the difficulties and realness that comes with it. The easy way out? Making plans 24/7 so you don’t have to face reality.

After going viral on TikTok with over 2.4M views and amassing over 500K streams on Spotify alone, Alexa releases her newest single of the year in ‘i hate the space’. With driving synths and empowering vocals, ‘i hate the space’ reflects on how difficult it is to face the present after all your plans have been said and done. Finding yourself alone in your thoughts with the pressures of an unknown future, it’s easier to immerse yourself in trite distractions so you don’t have to face reality.
