Cate Hamilton is a psychedelic pop / RnB singer, songwriter, and producer based in Brooklyn, NY. Her style can best be described as cinematic pop due to the dramatic nature of her expressive tracks which incorporate sounds reminiscent of a film score.

Hamilton’s shiny and soulful sound invites listeners to explore the depths of time space, and energy dauntlessly. Her dreamy vocal hues reverberate a real nostalgia for past lives and future ones. Through her messages about personal struggle and revelation, Hamilton possesses an undeniable duality to be both powerful yet soft.

How would you describe your music?

I would say my music is a mix of indie pop and R&B with a psychedelic undertone. It’s cinematic, it’s ethereal, and it’s nostalgic.

What is your current music project about?

My newest single, “Dimension” is about that feeling you get when you meet a stranger but it feels so familiar like you’ve met them before. It makes me wonder about past lives, alternate realities, and different dimensions.

What is your favorite song to perform?

I don’t know why, but it would probably be the song I released last summer, “Traces.” I wrote it towards the beginning of the pandemic, during a time when I felt discouraged to pursue my music so now when I play it at shows, it just feels so sentimental because I think past me would be so proud to see me doing live shows again with my talented friends who I love playing with. It just feels like a full-circle kind of moment.

If you could change anything about the music industry what would it be?

It is what it is, but I wish I could change how labels expect artists to be influencers or celebrities. It seems like in to gain label interest, you have to be blowing up on Tik Tok or verified on Instagram so now instead of just making good music, artists have to simultaneously dedicate their life to be good at social media.

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

Once I have a song that I want to release, I plan when I want to release it, but I’ve learned to not be too set on any particular date just because the process of releasing music always takes way longer than you expect.

    Do you have any superstitions?

I’m really superstitious about dreams. If I have a dream that I wake up feeling shaken by, I write it down and try to interpret its meaning. I feel like dreams tell you a lot about what your unconscious mind perceives (stressors, fears, unprocessed feelings, future events) so I analyze them super seriously even if the dream is ridiculous.

What would you bring along to an idyllic picnic?

Pink gingham picnic blanket, satin fringe umbrella, speaker, matcha tea latte, tea sandwiches, a joint, journal / a good book, and a person of romantic interest

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I always find myself singing the same songs I used to sing in the shower when I was 12 years old so the repertoire is very random. “Someone Like You” by Adele, “At Last” by Etta James, and maybe a little “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” by Jennifer Holliday.

If you had to describe yourself as a flavor, what would it be?

    Cotton candy 100%.

What’s your least favorite personality trait you like about yourself?

    I’m selfish and impatient.
