Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song/performance that made you say “Woah! I want to do that!”?
Oh, definitely. I played guitar pretty early on and got to see George Strait come to Beaumont for a show and announce how good it was to be in Corpus Christi…I was sold!
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
We just call it Country Music, but I’ve been told that I fall into the Neo Traditional category. Whatever you want to call it, it includes fiddle and steel guitar and it can make you dance or tear your heart out.
You’re featured as a co-writer on the title track for the album. What was the idea behind “This Life I Love” and are there any fun stories you can share from the writing/recording process?
We had a chance to pitch something to the Yellowstone series, so we were writing with that in mind. But I love having at least one or two Cowboy songs on each album. “This Life I Love” was maybe the easiest to write, it just came together in minutes.
What inspired you to release “One Drink In,” “Goin’ Goin;” and “Wait Til I’m Gone” as a trilogy release of songs that all intertwine with each other?
The trilogy idea came about as we were shooting the “One Drink In” video. We thought they were all 3 strong radio tunes, and it became obvious we could tell a “real life” story with them.
We love the storytelling in each of the music videos. What can fans expect from the music video for “Wait ‘Til I’m Gone”?
At this point things are over between the couple. The girl has moved on to someone else as the guy struggles with it until the end when he finds a spark of new romance, himself. Everyone moves on and is happy.
If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?
Oh, you’re going to find newer folks like Randall King, Cody Johnson, Jake Worthington, and Mae Estes. But you’ll also find Conway Twitty, George Jones, Merle Haggard and Keith Whitley.
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?
I think “This Life I Love” fits that as well.
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
Maroon…I attended Texas A&M University and over the years, my closet has acquired mostly maroon things. It’s pretty sad…lol
What makes you nostalgic?
I’ve always been an old soul and feel like I could’ve easily grown up in another era in the past. I especially like old music on vinyl.
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
Have you been true to yourself and your music or have you let the business water down what’s been so important to you all these years. I better answer correctly too.
If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?
French…I think it’s such a beautiful sounding language.
