Justin was born and raised in Hobbs, New Mexico on the Texas Border. Growing up in a musical family he was heavily influenced by the great Merle Haggard, George Jones, Keith Whitley, and all of the legends going back to the 1970’s.

Once he picked up the guitar at the age of eleven there was no turning back. He began songwriting in High School and pursued music at South Plains College in Levelland, TX. With the support of his father, David Kemp, who also plays bass with the band, the Justin Kemp Band was born. Justin co-writes many of the original songs the band records along with his father and band mate David Kemp. Their recent releases include Better Man, Heart’s Desire and Legends Never Die. Justin and the band tour nationally and he also performs as a trio with David and their fiddle player Megan Poppe. They have opened for many major acts including Joe Nichols, Chase Rice, Dylan Scott, Travis Tritt, Tanya Tucker, Josh Abbott Band, Kevin Fowler, and Wade Bowen to name a few.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I would describe it as a blend between traditional and modern country music.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I’ve ever been given is to just be nice. Being nice to people, whether they are or not, can take you a long way in life.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one thing, I enjoy playing music for people, meeting new people, shaking hands and taking pictures, signing autographs, seeing how my music reaches people, the list goes on.

If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to the next musical generation, what would it be?

I know it’s cliche but be nice and never give up on it. Music is the one language that connects all walks of life.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Thank you for supporting me and believing in me and my dream! I hope you’ll continue to do so, and I’ll do my best to keep making music for y’all and doing what I can to give back because I wouldn’t be where I am and doing what I’m doing without all of the support!

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Without a doubt! Whatever song I happen to be listening to or is stuck in my head at that time. It could just be random nonsense that I’m humming.

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

I think every man on planet Earth will agree with me when I say Ryan Reynolds.

Which is cooler? Dinosaurs or Dragons?

    Dragons 100%.

    What’s your favourite board game?

    Uno Spin

Do you shout out the answers on the TV whilst watching quiz shows?

    Absolutely! I don’t think it’s right not to…
