Kaylee Lauren, the Los Angeles-born singer/songwriter, with over 2 million streams, is a rising star who has established herself with incredible success as an 18 year old artist.

If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

*I opened for Taylor Swift on Tour*.. Manifesting this!!! I think Taylor Swift is an excellent portrayal of an artist who profoundly expresses her vulnerability through her music. So many people, including me, listen to her music and connect with her writing on a deep level. I recently attended the Eras Tour in LA and I was in awe of her stage presence and the connection she had with fans, through music she’s released throughout decades of releasing albums. I wish to watch her show every night, while on tour with her, to learn from the Mastermind, herself.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

In my opinion, Social Media has impacted the music industry in so many ways good and bad, and it definitely kickstarted my career. On Instagram, my reels usually perform really well when I’m consistent with posting, and that directs the viewers to my streaming platforms. I found that to be overwhelmingly beneficial, where streams can skyrocket from one video doing well on social media. However, with that being said, there is also a damaging side to social media having this much power. At times, I am very hard on myself because if a video isn’t doing well, my insecurities rush through my head with intrusive thoughts and it’s easy to doubt myself. I try to remind myself that numbers don’t prove my worth as an artist, but it’s easier said than done. If anyone reading this, relates to that, I hope you are easier on yourself, and know your music is just as good when it has views versus when it doesn’t have views. Believe in yourself.

What is your favorite song to perform?

My favorite song to perform right now is an unreleased song called “Killer in Disguise”. It’s a very fun, energetic, and catchy song with 60’s influences and a uniqueness that I think is so impactful when heard live. I am excited about this record, it’s very different for me, the sound is like nothing i’ve put out before. I think my fans will really enjoy this song and the meaning behind the songwriting, it’s a special one for sure!!!

What is the best advice you have been given?

Sometimes when I feel uninspired or discouraged, I tend to voice my feelings to those closest to me. Recently I brought up my doubts and insecurities about songwriting, to a friend of mine. She mentioned that “So many people could write stories about the same subject, but it’s just one line, from the way you tell the story, that could impact so many people. I think this caused an awakening for me, I was amazed at how true that sentence was. So many artists could write a song about heartbreak, but it could be just one lyric from your record that impacts others around the world.

    What is next for you?

I am going on tour soon!! I can’t wait to meet my fans and hug them! They truly get me and know the inner workings of my heart, that I love to share with them. I could cry just thinking about hearing them scream the lyrics back to me, truly a dream come true. I have been writing a lot and working on new music. I am excited for what is to come with these new records. I exist within a universe of possibilities!!!

If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?

Skeeter Davis, Lesley Gore, Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Madison Beer, and Peter & Gordon.

Are you planning any videos for your music?

Yes, I’m actually really excited about this new video formula I wrote for a new song, “Killer in Disguise”. The song has a dominant 60s influence, as I’m very inspired by oldies. The music video will be very 60s inspired with the style, wardrobe, and idea behind the production. We are going to begin the filming process in a couple of weeks, along with the editing. My first 2 music videos for my records “Not Enough” and “Life Saver”, were directed and edited by me at no cost, which I’m extremely proud of.

Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow you?

I hope one thing you can take from my stories and artistry is to believe in yourself. Visualize the career you want and take the necessary steps to follow the lines towards your success. Write very consistently, every song you write, get better, so imagine writing every day. Reach out to artists, producers, industry professionals, and magazines, the only thing stopping you from reaching out is yourself. Don’t doubt yourself, please know your worth and research your favorite artists and learn from their mistakes and success. Love, Kaylee Lauren
