Elegant, quirky and impossible to ignore – welcome to the eclectic world of Kaylee Patterson, an immensely talented singer-songwriter from Montreal, Canada. Kaylee can usually be found jamming out on TikTok sharing her wildly unpopular opinions and rocking her ukulele. Her sound is truly one of a kind, infusing pop with folk elements. Kaylee has an incredibly infectious personality, and her music is just mainstream enough to be fed to the masses whilst still maintaining a raw authenticity that allows fans to connect with her on a deeper level than just enjoying the music.

Kaylee released her first ever single in the summer of 2020, which has amassed close to 50K streams on Spotify.

If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?

    Arabic

What do you think the greatest invention has been?

    Weekends

    What’s your favorite board game?

    Settlers of Catan

Do you shout out the answers at the TV whilst watching quiz shows?

Of course! I don’t trust anybody who doesn’t.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I’m a huge Swiftie, so I’d have to say Taylor Swift.

Are you finding the isolation of the pandemic conducive to your writing or is it hindering the experiences you can write about?

The pandemic absolutely narrowed down the experiences that I could write about, but I think it was a blessing in disguise. Having so little to write about ultimately helped me confront my feelings and heal from a breakup, so in hindsight, I am quite grateful for that.

What would you be doing right now if it weren’t for your music career?

Everything pales in comparison to my music career, but I probably would’ve just finished my Public Relations degree at McGill University and started an internship at a big PR firm.

Has your musical journey had a deliberate direction, or did it simply gradually evolve in whatever direction it found?

It gradually evolved! I didn’t at all intend on creating the sound that we eventually ended up with, but I’m so happy with it and can’t wait to see how it continues to grow and mature.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

The fans are by far the best part of being an artist. Receiving messages from people I don’t know about how great my music is or about how inspiring I am is still so surreal to me. I’ll never get used to it. It’s one thing for my mom to tell me how proud she is of me, but it’s particularly special when it comes from someone who doesn’t know me personally.

Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Just go for it! Take that leap. You’re going to hear a lot of people who will tell you that you’ll never make it, or that you’re not good enough. But you owe it to yourself to try, because following your dreams will always make for a great story, even if it doesn’t work out.
