One of the newest bright stars on the pop-country scene (HollywoodLife),” singer-songwriter Laine Lonero started earning accolades for her performances at an early age.
Born and raised in The Pelican State of Louisiana, Laine grew up performing in musical theater and opera, penning her first song at 13-years-old. She went on to win the Nashville Dreamin’ songwriting contest for her original “The Little Girl in Me,” inspired by her grandmother’s battle with cancer. In 2016, Laine’s talent caught the attention of Kidz Bop producers who featured her on four CDs, while Radio Disney Country supported her debut single “No Sweat.” Laine currently resides in Nashville, where she attends Belmont University’s prestigious songwriting program. She has played several well-known Nashville venues and performed the national anthem for the San Diego Padres, Nashville Sounds, New Orleans Pelicans and Louisiana State University. In 2021, Laine was a featured National Anthem performer at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Talented and driven, Laine is paving a path for herself as a trendsetter in the Gen Z pop-country market with relatable lyrics and powerhouse vocals.
What first got you into music?
Well, I started singing when I was about 6 officially with lessons and recitals and moved on to musical theater and singing the National Anthem. I actually did my first full band performance when I was 11 years old. My parents knew then I needed to do something related to music. Besides voice lessons, guitar and piano lessons, theater, and choir, I also was in competition dance for 12 years. I guess you could say I loved being on stage. I think when I was about 13, I went to a song camp in California and ended up getting the opportunity to record songs for Kidz Bop. I really enjoyed the recording process and had already started writing down ideas for songs, so my mom reached out to some people in Nashville, and we headed there, and I started writing. If you ask my Paw Paw, he would say I was writing since I was about 3 in my head. He has films of me singing and dancing and making up songs in the backyard. Working with Go Long Entertainment allowed me the opportunity to play my first round in Nashville when I was 14. After that, I was lucky enough to be one of the winners of the Nashville Dreamin contest when I was 15 and got the honor of playing at the Listening Room. I continued to work with writers coming back and forth to Nashville from Louisiana, and I am now a student at Belmont at the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business in the prestigious songwriting program. I plan to continue to write, perform and release music.
How would you describe your music?
I am definitely pop-country but sometimes on the mellow scale of that genre. I do love ballads and I am a sad song kinda girl. I like to think of people as using my songs for decompression, but also to refresh. I want others to feel like they are understood and heard when they listen to my music and be able to relate to the subject matter.
What is “Broke” about?
‘Broke’ came about when my co-writer, Amanda Cooksey, and I finally got together and just started talking about the “so called” relationships we had been in. We both have had experiences with guys that ended up going nowhere because some guys just don’t seem to understand what real feelings and commitment are. We both feel that guys need to be on the other side of heartache to really understand. Guys just need to be humbled sometimes.

What is your creative process like/what was it like for this song?
Ideas just usually pop in my head out of nowhere or I am inspired by something that I see or hear about, and I usually jot it down in my phone. I have a section in my notes that says future song ideas. I tend to procrastinate and sit on things for a while. I know it’s something worth working on if it keeps nagging at me. There is a lot going on up there, and it just needs to be organized at times. I actually had the idea for “Broke” for some time, but it came to light when Amanda Cooksey and I put our heads together at a session. As far as the structure of a song, I usually think of the melody first and go from there.
What can we expect next from you?
I definitely have some new music in the works. I definitely want to get something else out in the next couple of months. I plan to continue to write, perform and release. I’m very lucky to have so many great people to work with in Nashville. I am also a student at Belmont in the Songwriting Program, so I also need to focus on that.
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?
“The Girl and Her Dog” – I have an emotional support dog (GiGi), and she is my world. She gave me comfort and love when I most desperately needed it and still is. She definitely helps to relax me when stressed.
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Any new shade of purple please! I always loved purple growing up and once a purple girl, always a purple girl.
Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?
I know it’s cliche, but I have always thought of the number 7 as my lucky number. Not sure if it has had anything to do with any of my luck, but I’m feeling pretty lucky right now being able to do what I love.
What was the last thing you dressed up as for fancy dress?
I recently joined a sorority at Belmont and am having a blast. I love to dress up and I get to go to semis and formals during the year. I just got to dress up for two of those. I do love Halloween and the last one I dressed as a devil.
If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?
Make the most of your time. I am starting to discover that time moves fast, and you need to treasure those special moments.
