Lucy LaForge, the artist behind the name “Lucy & La Mer”, is known for the positivity in her songs, as well as her mental health advocacy within the LGBTQ community. Coming out in an interview in 2018, Billboard stated that the singer is “proud of who and what she is.”
Lucy’s repertoire has been featured by The LA Times, Huffington Post, EARMILK, Billboard Pride, Pride and many more publications. Her music is a blend of pop empowerment with lyrical stylings mirroring her storytelling folk music upbringing.
Often seen wielding a ukulele, Lucy was chosen to feature the new Billie Eilish Ukulele by Fender in Summer 2020. The singer has also collaborated with major brands like IKEA, HP, Guitar Center, and Kala Ukuleles. Her music can be heard on international commercials, with companies such as Disney and Dove using her upbeat tunes in advertisements.
In 2020, Lucy’s fans came together after the initial Stay-At-Home covid order to create a fanmade music video for her song, “Together”. Although touring and shows have halted, her close relationship with her audience continues to grow. She stays in touch with her fans on her weekly “Late Night with Lucy” livestream show and has just launched a monthly online concert series on Patreon. “Ooh La La” is her second single of 2021, following her playful love story track, “Rollercoaster”.

I can organize your closet to look like a rainbow.
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?
“I Feel Better Now.”
What would be a good theme song for your life?
“Somewhere over the Rainbow”. I’m always day dreaming and singing towards the clouds.
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
Where did you put your keys?
Which are cooler? Dinosaurs or Dragons?
Dinosaurs. I own a pet turtle, so basically a dinosaur. And they are WAY cool.
What first got you into music?
My Dad. He was always singing around the house. And my mom encouraged me to practice piano and she was always singing along to the radio in the car. They both had vinyl collections, and I would sit and read the every liner note and lyric that was available.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Kacey Musgraves. She’s a fierce optimist.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
You are not your thoughts. Sometimes we get caught up in our thoughts, and I think that’s why music is so magical. It takes you out of your own thoughts for a while and just lets you feel. So, if the things you’re thinking don’t feel good, remember that they are just thoughts. And you CAN change them.
What would you be doing right now if it weren’t for your music career?
I’d probably be in grad school studying to be a therapist. Or a travel vlogger of sorts.
If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?
First, please excuse the mess! My studio is always in use and there is a glorious mess of instruments everywhere. I’ve been told (by MANY roommates) that I have an excess of guitars (not possible). And I also collect folk instruments (autoharp, ukuleles, banjos, mandolins…). The walls are covered in inspiration – photos of great songwriters quotes from publications that have published kind reviews, rainbow tapestry. It’s a magical little box where I escape to pour my emotions into music.
