Behind the name ‘Marineris’ is Alex, a 23-year-old singer, songwriter and producer obsessed with creating his musical world from scratch, from writing the songs, to production to creating his music videos.

Born and raised in an industrial town in Ukraine, Marineris grew up listening to an eclectic mix of musical genres.Citing The 1975 and Mura Masa as his biggest musical inspirations, he draws on his combined influences, thriving on being able to experiment with his music and the concepts and emotions he’s able to portray, totally owning his own brand of bold, gutsy and thought-provoking alt-pop.

What first got you into music?

It seems that from the very moment I was born, we had a simple acoustic guitar at home so my dad would play every time we had some guests over. He knew just the basic chords and it was enough to play almost any song. But I have not even touched the guitar till I turned 11, just observing it instead.

Once we had a couple of weeks of quarantine at school, and that’s when I decided to try and learn how to play it. Now I had something to do besides playing GTA and Need For Speed.

How would you describe your music?

My album is a playlist for every occasion, made by one person who’s in love with life for another.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

That we are all The Same. We have different backgrounds and histories. Our lives turn out to be different, but the emotions we’re experiencing, the stages of life, the questions we all encounter – they are extremely similar. I think this message has to make us all more “human” and forgiving to each other.

Of your own music, do you have a favorite?  If so, can you pin down why?

If I was to discern any specific songs from the album, I would judge based on their lyrics. I started writing my songs on guitar, so lyrics have been the most important part of the song for me for a long time. It seems that in ‘Our House Is on Fire’ and ‘The Same’, I managed to express my essence and message in the best possible way.

What are your top two favorite albums of all time? Why those albums?

The 1975 – A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships and Oasis – (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?

The first one is here because it’s a devilishly beautiful and witty portrait of the 21st-century-world, and the second one has something magical and eternal in it.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I have a feeling that the attention of the labels is now directed towards the folks on Tiktok. I can understand this, as it will be definitely easier to promote their next releases.

What are your plans for any future releases?

I’ve already started working on my next album and it excites me, but before that one I am planning to release a small EP, the demos for which I made while working on MBCBYH.

What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?

    Lasagna!

If you had to describe yourself as a flavour, what would it be?

    Chanel #5 🙂

If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?

    Have you stopped overthinking?

What do you think the greatest invention has been?

A plane. I’m always anxious when I’m flying, but it boggles my mind every time that in literally two hours, you can find yourself in a completely different culture and climate. It’s a miracle.

Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?

I have several pieces, given to me by friends. Wherever I move, I always take them with me and place them in a certain order:)
