    Interview with Townsend

Townsend is gearing up for the release of a new single, “Stay,” due out Oct. 22. Townsend has been in the music industry scene for many years, opening for chart-topping artists including Kris Allen, Andy Davis, and Ben Rector, and more.

Penned by Townsend alone, “Stay” tells the story of a narrator coming to terms with the end of a relationship while still secretly hoping her partner will change. The midtempo, pop-rock track features a bittersweet melody that embodies the feeling of having mixed emotions.

In 2016, Townsend endured heartache and tragedy when her drummer passed away. Townsend took a break from the scene but realized over time that words, particularly lyrics, can be healing. The transformative nature of grief inspired her to find her way back to music. Pouring her heart and emotions out on paper, Townsend got back in the studio, determined to serve her drummer, later completing the album they always planned on making.

Fast forward to the present, Townsend is still taking the music scene by storm. In 2019, Townsend played at the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival and shared the spotlight with award-winning songwriters including Jeremy Bussey (Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Ashley McBryde), Brian White (Rascal Flatts, Trace Adkins), Scott Southworth (Amanda Tiffany Goss (Brett Young, Chris Janson, Clay Walker), and Lance Carpenter (Kelsea Ballerini), among others. More recently, Townsend has received support from Fretmonkey Records and endorsements from K&K Sound Systems, Mayson Guitars, and Elixir Strings.

If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?

The title would be “Well…She Tried.”

What was the last TV series you watched on TV?

I am currently watching “Ted Lasso.” It’s light-hearted and humorous!

As a kid were you ever frightened of a monster under the bed or in the cupboard?

I’m still slightly afraid to sleep with one foot hanging off the bed.

What would you bring along to an idyllic picnic?

I would bring any item from “The Great British Baking Show.”

    What’s your favourite children’s story?

My favorite childhood movie is “Toy Story.” I can recite this movie word for word.

If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

I would love to open for Brandi Carlile. I feel like our styles are similar, not to mention I want to be her best friend.

With the pandemic, how have you found a way to get your music and your message out there?

During the pandemic, I wrote, self-produced, and released one of my most meaningful songs called “The Frontliners.” I wrote this song to bring awareness to the frontline workers and let them know their hard work does not go unnoticed. I also dove into my “You’re Not Alone” project, which focuses on mental health awareness and advocacy.

What would you be doing right now if it weren’t for your music career?

I actually have a master’s degree to practice Speech Therapy and a sweet spot for the geriatric population. I would be providing healthcare/therapy services for adults who have recently experienced a stroke or dementia.

In your opinion, how do artists in this industry stay on top of the game when faced with so much competition? What’s the secret to making yourself noticed?

Be yourself! There’s only one true you.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned?

I recently recorded several songs in Nashville, and I am beyond excited to share them with the world! The first single on the project, “Stay,” will be available on Oct 22nd. Followers can pre-save this song now! The entire album will drop in November. I’ve never been more excited to release new music! You can keep up with everything through my website, Facebook, and Instagram!
