Vicki’s music combines pop with dark, dramatic sounds; fused with orchestral instrumentations. She is a combination of fierce yet vulnerable; having an eccentric persona like Lady Gaga and lush lyricisms like Lana Del Rey. Her theatrical elements are also inspired by MARINA, Melanie Martinez and Phantom of the Opera.
Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song/ performance that made you say “Woah! I want to do that!”?
I’ve always loved music, art and storytelling. One of my absolute favourite performances is Lady Gaga at the 2009 MTV Music Awards, where she performed Paparazzi.
Absolutely mind-blowing. In the middle of her performance, she had fake blood leaking from her chest and onto the floor. I remember watching it live on TV and hearing the gasps from the audience because no one saw it coming. The concept of bleeding for the fame is such a brilliant way to perform the song too, because it fits with the storyline of her song Paparazzi.
If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?
Melanie Martinez, Allie X, Lady Gaga. Hands down some of my favourite artists and female pop icons I’d love to open for.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
It’s extremely important to respect and celebrate your own culture as well as everyone else’s. Surround yourself with kind hearted people, who love and accept you for who you are. Also, whatever it is you want to do with your life – your dreams, your goals. Don’t be afraid of pursuing them. Work hard, learn from others, and don’t ever give up.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
Social media and the internet have really allowed independent artists such as myself to have access to tools and resources, so we’re able to run our music business by ourselves without a huge label. Social media has allowed me to share my music with people all over the world, and reach more people through apps like TikTok and Instagram.
Technology also helps because we’re able to film and create content and videos with our phone.
In your opinion, how do artists in this industry stay on top of the game when faced with so much competition? What is the secret to making yourself noticed
It’s hard to stay focused when you’re constantly comparing yourself to others. I believe that artists should focus on their own music and path. Don’t see other artists as competition but instead, learn from other artists and be inspired by other artists. Uplift and hype each other. We all know how difficult the industry is and when artists hype each other and collaborate with each other, we end up creating something even more spectacular.
What are your musical plans for the next 12 months or so?
I’m currently working on a new album! So definitely expect lots of new music coming soon and a new music video as well! I’m also doing more shows this year around the

You are a new addition to a crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
I’d be a pink sparkly glow in the dark raspberry scented crayon. Pink is one of my favourite colours and who doesn’t love a sparkly, glow in the dark scented crayon? It’s fun!
What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
One Piece is one of my favourite shows. It has adventure, comedy, heartbreak and life lessons. Luffy is one of my favourite characters and he’ll most likely be my first tattoo when I get one eventually!
Which are cooler? Dinosaurs or Dragons?
Dragons of course! They can fly plus breathe fire
Do you have any superstitions?
In Chinese culture, we believe that anything with a number 4 is bad luck. Because saying the number 4 in Chinese has the same sound as “death”. I usually try to stay away from the number 4 because of it.
What’s your favourite children’s story?
Love you forever by Robert Munsch. I remember having that book as a child and always loving the message of the book. But reading it now gets me super nostalgic and makes me cry about the joys of growing up and growing old.
