    Kick and the Hug’s New Song “Born Too Late” was Written About and for a Live Experience

    Kick and the Hug, the 4-man band based out of Colorado, though the Pandemic spread them across the U.S., release their new single from their upcoming debut album, Ladies and Gentlemen, Kick and the Hug. Coming off of their previous beat “Girl You Changed,” they bring us a new hit about being in the moment. “Born Too Late” is a pop-rock song that is bound to be a hit. With a sound similar to Green Day and a sprinkling of Coldplay, “Born Too Late” is Kick and the Hug’s call to action.

    Kick and the Hug write their songs on their emotion and specifically for a live show, we saw that with “Girl You Changed.” “Born Too Late” is no different. The song came about when they thought about the differences in the live music experience among generations. They feel as though the newest generation of concert goer and music listeners don’t live in the moment when it comes to a live show. They watch the show through the lenses of their phones, as they take photos and videos of their experience to share with others rather than let the music wash over them.

     “‘Born Too Late’ is me talking to younger (than me) audiences and trying to tell them that remembering the song via a phone clip that they shoot at a show is one thing, but remembering the song via a feeling is a whole different thing. It’s like an old drug they should try,” says Doug Murray, the lead singer and guitar player. “‘Born Too Late’ is about the phenomena of connecting a song to a moment in your life, and how you might break that magic circuit if you are letting your phone do all of the rememberings.”

    While they have not been able to perform live in quite some time, they are ready to get back on the stage. Itching to get back into the rehearsal room, they can’t wait to create a connection with their audience again. “Born Too Late” was meant to be experienced live and they are ready to create that experience.

    I fell in love with music when I first picked up a guitar at age 8. When I played, my friends and family would smile and spill with joy over the music I played, even though it was never Grammy quality. While my music career never made it past high school, my love for music never waivered. I loved the feeling of bringing a smile to someone's face through music and wanted to keep that passion going. So, I took it upon myself to continue to support and promote artists by writing about their music. This way, I can support my personal passion for music and bring entertain and joy to others through music.  Outside my love for music, I do enjoy a good hike and being in the outdoors. My favorite place that I've hiked is in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. I love to travel too. I've been to Costa Rica, Vancouver, BC, and England, but the best place by far is Germany on Oktoberfest. I liken that experience to being in New Orleans on Mardi Gras. I like a good book now and then, but I'm more of a streaming fiend. I live for crime docuseries on Netflix, veterinary shows on National Geographic, and re-watching Scrubs on Hulu.
