How would you describe your music?

I have many different influences that I feel naturally come out, as you can hear on the new album. A lot of Old-School Country, Rock N Roll, Bluegrass, Soul, R&B, etc. I feel there’s a little bit of everything I grew up with in there. Mainly country and rock n roll, though.

Who inspired you to make music?

My father, Rick Martinez. I remember being four years old, watching his band play. I asked myself, “How do these five different people come together with five different instruments but make one sound?” I knew right then and there what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and here we are today.

What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?

I write lyrics in a way that is vague enough to be relatable to people on multiple levels. As far as my melodies and chord structures go, I don’t follow a specific formula like most popular music today. Everything I do is completely original. I never set out to make a song sound like someone else’s, and if it is reminiscent of another artist, it’s because it just naturally happened that way. I like to remain a bit unpredictable.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Having to also be a content creator—this in itself is almost a full-time job. It’s fun in a way but just takes a lot of time. For me, the whole lip-syncing thing to a clip of one of your songs with the lyrics going across the screen while in different settings is weird. And you have to just keep pushing that one song over and over! It’s like, I just recorded a whole album! Listen to it!

    What is next for you?

Well, I’m about to be a father for the first time in January! So that’s going to be the most important thing for a minute. We have a few irons in the fire as far as shows and a tour go. That’s what’s next: getting on a tour and opening the shows for a bigger artist who’s kind of in the same vein as me.

If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?

I can speak a little bit of a few different languages, such as Spanish, Dutch, German, French, and Japanese, but I would really like to be 100% fluent in Spanish. I mean, my last name is Martinez for crying out loud!

Do you shout out the answers at the TV whilst watching quiz shows?

Oh, absolutely! Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Family Feud are among my favorites.

If you were captain of a ship, what would you call it?

The Alabaster Rose! Obviously, it’s one of the songs off the new album. It’s an important song to me, and it’s just a great name for a ship or boat! That is most definitely going to be the name of my first vessel.

Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?

I like Native American jewelry a lot. I have an old Navajo silver and turquoise ring that I wear on my right hand. It was given to me by a very important person in my life. It never comes off. It’s been on for over a decade. The stone is riddled with cracks yet remains whole. They say in the old Native lore that every crack indicates every time it has saved your life. I don’t know how true that is, but if so, it’s done a bang-up job.

If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?

Life isn’t always a party, dude! You can still have fun and be creative without substances. When you’re in that mode a lot, it’s hard to see all the opportunities laid out before you. Keep your mind right and stay sharp so you can strike while the iron is hot.

To wrap up, you’ve discovered the inspiring journey of Tony Martinez, a talented musician whose life is filled with perseverance and miraculous moments. From his early days learning guitar from his father to overcoming serious health challenges, Tony’s story resonates with anyone who has faced adversity. His debut album, Everywhere West, beautifully captures this journey, inviting you to connect with his music and experience the power of resilience alongside him. So, examine his melodies and let his story inspire your own path!
