The origins of “Immortal” are as grounded as the song is soaring. While waiting for a workout, Macfarlane realized her own catalog lacked the specific brand of “fist-in-the-air” energy she gravitated toward when she needed to push through a challenge.

What first got you into music?
An Aerosmith concert at Jones Beach was the day I decided to pursue music as a vocation. Thanks, Steven Tyler!
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
I like to think that something that sets my music apart is something I used to think of as a weakness and now see as a strength. So far I’ve endeavoured to have each song have its own universe that feels unique, and while it’s all very much mine, each song feels different and stands on its own. The “sound” isn’t just one style and for each song, if I were to pick the ideal person to cover my music, it would be a different artist from song to song.
What is your creative process like?
My creative process begins with discipline. I try to schedule into my life time to write. Even if it’s only 5 minutes a day, once or twice a week, if I don’t MAKE time for it to be a regular practice, it’s amazing how time will slip away from me. The second part of my process is that I chase after any and every idea I have and make sure I save it somewhere so I don’t lose it. A song title? Write it down in my notes app. A melody in my head on the elevator? Record it on my phone even if it’s only one phrase. Have a song idea in a dream? Wake up and write it down and then roll over and go back to bed (hopefully).
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
This is really a question that would change by the day but I have this song I’m writing right now that demands a sort of Zach Bryan style voice and cadence to sing it (it’s written to be a duet). Doesn’t have to be exactly him, though that would be awesome of course. Just someone with that sort of casual, storyteller, been-there-done-that sound and resonance to their voice. ZB has a way with making a melody feel like it’s not planned and this is the first time he’s ever singing it. I’d love to collaborate with someone with that laid back vibe. Mumford or Hozier would also be incredible, I wrote a song called “In The Gray” that I’d be so excited to collaborate with either of them on. Dare to dream right?
What is one message you would give to your fans?
I only get one message? Every song is a message to my fans! But if I had to just say one thing directly to them, I think instead of presuming to speak, I’d simply ask a question: Who are you?
…And then I’d hope that they’d respond and tell me about themselves! They can already find out so much about me on my social pages and in my emails. I’d like to know more about THEM!
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Right now I think one of the biggest problems is there being a clear place to discover new music in a succinct and simple way, that people naturally want to engage with. Even for me, and I’m in active pursuit always of finding new music to listen to, it’s oddly challenging to find new stuff without being very proactive about it. In the “good old days” it was curated for you at radio, later by MTV, and then now relying on the “algorithm” to give you new artists on streaming platforms or based on a post that went “viral” is very hit or miss. In some ways it’s amazing because you have access to SO MUCH content, but in some ways that can be a lot like finding something to watch on Netflix now. 2 hours later… I still haven’t found something to watch, haha!
Who are your top two favorite artists of all time? Why those artists?
TOP TWO? That’s a bold question to ask an artist! I can do top three today (which is hard enough). Ask me tomorrow and I’ll deny every saying this but today… Whitney Houston. Aerosmith. Michael Jackson.
Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video? Online Shows?
The Music Video for Immortal was a HUGE endeavour for many reasons and I’m very proud of it. We tried to make our own “Marvel Movie” style video using a combo of real footage and AI and it’s really creative and cool I think so I’m excited about that.

I’m the sole songwriter but I recorded the first 15 songs I’m releasing with Grammy Award winning producer Scott Jacoby at Eusonia Studios in NYC.
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?
Welcome to Planet Earth: beware of French Fries.
If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be and your superhero name?
My superhero power would be to know the truth of anything at all times always. This one is a controversial one but I prefer to know the truth than a pretty lie. And my name would be Scarlett. Maybe Scarlett Skye. My mom already gave me an awesome Superhero name, I’ll keep it. She also almost named me Skye. So I’ll just put those two names together.
What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?
French fries. Or Pizza. Or both.
What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
Currently watching Paradise on Hulu and it’s incredible.
Which fictional character do you wish was real?
Hagrid. And Obi Wan. And Rhysand. (iykyk)
Which are cooler? Dinosaurs or Dragons?
Dragons. No contest.
What is your favourite board game?
Can a card game count? UNO because my dad and I like to play that game.
Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?
My mom is a masterful finder-of-four-leaf-clovers and it has become a sort of tradition for us so… Four Leaf Clovers.
Are you a valuable asset on a Pub Quiz team?
No I’m TERRIBLE at trivia, I can’t remember what I did yesterday and I embarrassingly frequently forget the words to my own songs, which I wrote, so don’t count on me for anything trivia related.
If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?
Figure out who you really are first. Worry about the rest later, it will be much easier that way.
