“The beginning of “When Love Takes Hold” was actually written in 2015,” explained Jett Beres, bassist for the band and cowriter. “We wrote most of this song in a very short time, made a quick acoustic demo, and there it resided in the vault. We always felt the song was a great fit for Hazel, and actually worked it up a couple times, but it never caught the magic. As we started to re-write this song five years after we had begun, our world seemed to be in a state of chaos, division, and hurting. As we developed this song in the studio and on the page, “When Love Takes Hold” became, to us, an anthem of connection, peace, and healing.”
Co-written by Jeffrey East, Jett Beres, and Ryan Newell the chorus brings home a feeling we can all relate to and amplifies the power of the message:

“After some distanced rewrites, our producer Ben Jackson, Ryan, and myself, worked through a demo that we all liked, and it was game-on! We finally found the vibe. All of us tracked at our home studios with Ben at the helm, and viola, Sister Hazel’s first ever “distanced” recorded song!”
