“2 Young” marks your first official collaboration with Dirty Heads — and with your dad. What was the moment like when you first heard the finished track with both of your voices together?
Listening to the finished track for the first time was such a special moment for me. So much emotion was put into the song and it was incredible getting to hear how it turned out.
You’ve described this as a full‑circle experience. When you think back to growing up around the band, what early memories feel connected to this moment?
I always loved getting to watch the band perform from backstage. I remember when I was really little, they used to bring me and my brother on stage at the end of shows and let us wave to the crowd. It’s crazy to think about how much I’ve grown, but still keep the same love for the stage.
The song explores growing up, change, and stepping into the unknown. Which lyric hits you the hardest now that you’re graduating high school?
The lyrics, “I keep trying to make a change, but that old me keeps showing up” hits the hardest for me. After graduating, it feels like you’re immediately expected to be an adult. It can be an uncomfortable process managing your adult life while still feeling like a kid.
Did working with your dad in a professional studio setting feel different from the creative environment you grew up in at home?
Yes, I’m used to seeing the building and creative sides of music so it was interesting to be a part of the finishing stages of the song.
Listeners may first discover you through Dirty Heads, but your sound is distinctly your own. How would you describe the emotional world you’re building as an artist?
I want to build my music around authenticity and vulnerability. My goal is to create feelings in my songs that connect with other people.
Your music blends dreamy California melancholy with intimate, bedroom‑pop storytelling. What draws you to that softer, cinematic space?
I write most of my songs in my own bedroom, so I think being in such a personal and comfortable space helps me get into that mindset.
You’ve mentioned influences like Lizzy McAlpine, Mazzy Star, and Olivia Rodrigo. What have you learned from those artists about vulnerability in songwriting?
What I look up to in these artists is the authentic feeling in their music. I appreciate the individual sounds they’ve built and it inspires me to be more honest in my own music.
Your voice on “2 Young” feels both delicate and confident. How has your vocal style evolved as you’ve started releasing your own music?
Since I started putting music out I have definitely put more focus on how my voice is being perceived. I don’t think my vocal style has changed much, but I definitely lean into a more confident and strong technique than I did before.
You’re stepping into your career at the same time you’re stepping out of high school. How are you navigating the mix of excitement, uncertainty, and pressure that comes with that transition?
There have for sure been a lot of emotions in this period of my life, but I think that being accepting of the things coming my way helps with the transition. It is good to have an open mind in new spaces to be able to learn and grow as much as you can.
You’ve talked about wanting this song to remind people they’re not alone in the messy parts of growing up. What conversations do you wish young artists had more openly?
I wish it was made more aware that it’s okay to not have everything figured out in the early stages of your career. Music is such a creative art and I feel it should be more acceptable to explore different genres and styles to test what feels the most honest.
Being raised in a creative household, when did you first realize you wanted to pursue music seriously — not just as something you were surrounded by, but something that was yours?
I have always been involved in song writing and playing instruments since I was little. The roles I wanted to play in the industry changed a lot growing up, but my passion for songwriting drastically grew when I was about 14/15. I don’t think there was a specific time I realized that I wanted to pursue this lifestyle, I think I always had a feeling that music was going to play a big role in my life.
What’s something your dad taught you about music that you didn’t fully understand until you started making your own?
I would say that inspiration can come from anywhere. It’s a weird feeling when something so random can spark an entire song, and I think that it’s something you can’t understand unless you feel it.
Your debut single “Bittersweet” introduced a more intimate, emotionally rich side of your songwriting. How does that song connect to the themes you’re exploring now?
Bittersweet presents a two sided story with a mix of emotion. I think that concept is fun to explore and I definitely want to continue to add those notes into new music.
You’re already building momentum with collaborations and new music. What part of your artistic vision are you most excited to reveal next?
I am most excited to share the more raw and honest sides of my songwriting. I love notes of deep, authentic story telling in music and I can’t wait to introduce that to my listeners.
