Stay Chill & Productive with These Work-From-Home Tips

Working from home has become the new normal for so many, and it’s important that your new workspace combines productivity and efficiency with the ability to stay relaxed and feel comfortable in your space.

The way your new office is laid out and the sights and sounds surrounding it can significantly impact how productive you’re able to be during the week. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to create a harmonious environment in the comfort of your home.

Stay chill and productive with these easy work-from-home tips.

    Have the Right Playlist

The right music can affect our mood on a daily basis and can often set the scene for how productive we’re able to be during a work day. That’s why it’s important to set the right tone for the day. You might love a catchy pop song, but something too dance-y can be a distraction and is probably best suited to your off time.

Instead, try a chill music playlist where you can listen to artists like Lila Drew or Oh Wonder — with silky melodies and soft vocals that can help you get into the right mindset.

    Incorporate Gentle Movement

If you’re sitting at a desk for the majority of the day, the last thing you want is to feel stiff or sore — which is the opposite of the chill, productive vibes you’re going for. It’s important to take short breaks throughout the work day, and this can easily be achieved by adding gentle movement into your morning and afternoon routines.

If you have the space in your office, try setting up a yoga mat or blanket and take 10 minutes to stretch out your body. If space is limited, a short walk around your home or apartment is a simple, effective way to get that movement in without having to go far.

    Create a Serene Landscape

Your workspace should feel inviting and allow you to feel productive with minimal stress. How your office is set up is a big part of that process.

Look at your office and ask yourself if the colors and decor you have set up are fostering that chill environment you need. Something as simple as a coat of paint or a beautiful hanging picture and some indoor plants can elevate the space and create a more serene space.

    Dress Comfortably

One of the perks of working from home is the flexibility many people have to alter their dress code. If your superiors are flexible with work-from-home attire, or you’re your own boss, take advantage of this time and add more comfortable pieces into your wardrobe — we’re talking lounge pants, sweaters, and comfortable t-shirts, all in soft materials.

    Stay Hydrated

Staying productive and in a relaxed headspace is easier when your body is hydrated. Forgetting to drink water throughout the day is an easy way to feel sluggish and can even cause headaches. Keeping your mind and body nourished is one of the simplest ways to make the most of your WFH life.

    Get Out of the Office

Working from home was pushed upon the majority of the population during COVID. Many homeowners set up an office at the end of their bed or in a dedicated spare room, but that often means they cannot leave their work at work! To combat this work-home crossover, the “outdoor office” or “office pod” was brought into production by many garden room companies. Now, when working from home you can leave the house and walk into your garden, work and then walk back to your home, creating a healthy work-life balance.
