In a world where we often drift through daily routines without pause, New Jersey rock quartet The Modbeats invite us to slow down, take notice, and consider the stories of those around us with their introspective new single, “The Passers-Bye.” Released via Mayleen Records and now streaming on all major platforms, the track is a swirling, cinematic reflection on the people we encounter every day, and the inner worlds we may never see.
Co-written with J. Vincent Vassallo and featuring Bryan Haring of The Gaslight Anthem on piano, “The Passers-Bye” was recorded at Lake House Studio in Asbury Park and engineered by Nick Semanchik. The track blends poetic lyricism with moody instrumentation, drawing inspiration from classic English rock acts like The Kinks, Oasis, and The Doors. Drummer Santo Rizzollo laid down the beat before permanent member Fizz joined the lineup, giving the track a snapshot of the band’s evolution in real time. The lyrics pose a quiet challenge to the listener: “The passersby don’t blink their eyes / When on the way to the nine to five… The passersby never wonder why…” It’s a nudge to reflect on our own habits, our own numbness, and our tendency to move through life on autopilot. According to the band, the track serves as a collection of “musings and observations of daily life in the modern world,” asking what it means to truly be present, and whether there’s bliss in choosing not to question at all.
Since forming in 2023, The Modbeats, comprised of Scott Matison (bass), Fizz (drums), Joe Mandia (guitar), and Philip Dunn (vocals, guitar), have quickly become a standout in the Northeast rock revival scene.
