The Top Weekend Getaways in Kentucky

As if being home to the world’s most beautiful horse farms isn’t enough, Kentucky truly offers some of the most romantic and fun weekend getaways. Stuck between the South and the Midwest, it’s the perfect spot for many people to hop in the car and spend a couple of nights. Here are the top weekend getaways in Kentucky for you to check out.

    Lexington

The charm of Lexington lies in its ability to offer everything you need in a city while being surrounded by countryside that looks like it came out of a fairy tale. The scenery beckons for a bed-and-breakfast, and you’ll find plenty, from charming inns downtown to nights spent on a horse farm.

Tour Keeneland Race Course and Horse Park, known all over the world as the home to several famous horse races. End your weekend of fun with the Bluegrass Driving Tour, which you can pull up on your phone and enjoy from the comfort of your car.

    Bourbon Trail

Enjoy drinking bourbon like a bibulous? Here’s the weekend getaway of your dreams. Kentucky proudly carries the Kentucky bourbon name, and it has 37 distilleries to prove it. We don’t recommend you drink your way through all of them, although that would be impressive. Hotels and bed-and-breakfasts abound along the trail, which travels from Owensboro to Lexington. Choose your favorite bourbons and go from there.

    Cumberland Falls

If hiking and scenery are your thing, you’ll enjoy a weekend in southeast Kentucky at Cumberland Falls. With 17 miles of gorgeous hiking trails, guided horseback riding, and rafting trips on the Cumberland River, there’s no better place for outdoor-lovers. Cumberland Falls also has a resort right on the property, so you can pack your hiking clothes, show up, and not have to leave the area for the entire weekend.

    Louisville

Plan your trip to the Kentucky Derby, and you can wear that fancy hat you’ve always dreamed of wearing. Louisville has earned the right to boast of Churchill Downs, home to the world-famous derby. But there’s a lot more to the fun city of Louisville.

You’ve heard of the Louisville Slugger—if you’ve ever wondered if it was actually created in Louisville, the giant wooden baseball bat outside of the Louisville Slugger building will make that clear. The company offers fun tours and plenty of baseball bats to purchase.

The arts scene in downtown Louisville is a bit of an unknown gem, and the city also has great restaurants. Louisville has a way of feeling small-town even as a good-sized city, making it one of the top weekend getaways in Kentucky.

Enjoy your weekend getaway, but be prepared to want to stay in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky.
