Tips for Starting a Garden on Your Several Acre Property

Gardening is one of the best ways to make a property your own. From the expansive range of colors to the variety of produce you can create, it feels like the possibilities are endless when it comes to creating something unique. This is especially true for those who own larger sections of property. Though it seems like you have an infinite amount of space to do what you’d like with, it’s still vital that you approach the gardening process in the most efficient ways if you want to achieve success. Here are our tips for starting a garden on your several acre property.

    Create a Detailed Garden Plan

Just because you have more space to work with than the average homeowner, it doesn’t mean you should go into the project without a proper plan. Garden planning is essential to ensuring you devote enough space to certain plants and that everything appears cohesive once you’re done. So, before you even start upturning soil and shopping for greenery, carefully assess your property and draw up a blueprint. Make sure you also mark how large you want your garden to be and put down stakes to give yourself an accurate picture.

    Test and Amend Your Soil

It’s also important that you get your soil tested, and potentially treated, before you start gardening on your property. Depending on your location, it’s possible for your soil to contain harmful chemicals or an abundance of minerals that could prevent your plants from thriving. Thorough soil tests can pinpoint these substances and provide you with advice for returning the ground to a healthy state. Because of this, you’ll want to take and test several different samples across your land, especially in the areas where you want to put flowers or crops.

    Use Large-Scale Tools

An additional tip for starting a garden on your several acre property is to upgrade the tools you use for the project. For gardens of this size, hand tools and smaller tillers simply won’t cut it and you’ll spend much longer clearing a spot. So, consider renting or buying larger-scale equipment like a skid steer brush cutter or a dozer blade attachment. A skid steer dozer blade is a must-have for any bigger landscaping or gardening project because it allows you to move and spread hundreds of pounds of dirt at once. This way, you’re saving time and creating more consistent results.

    Start the Process Slowly

Most importantly though, you’ll want to start the gardening process slowly and pace yourself throughout. Projects this large can take several weeks to complete, and pushing yourself to move faster can cause fatigue to set in. As such, if you don’t want to burn out and leave the endeavor half-finished, it’s vital that you’re getting the proper amount of rest between tasks.

While large gardening projects are a lot of work, they’re always worth the effort and planning. So, use the nice weather in the coming months along with these helpful tips to ensure you get the best possible results.
