Krissi Hunter is a Canadian pop artist hailing from Ontario, Canada. Her sound is upbeat, unique, and fresh – inspired by retro dance-pop and house music, with ’60s to ’80s influences. Krissi truly believes that music is a form of healing and mental therapy in our society, and always wants to bring that element to her audience.
From the early age of 7, Krissi began to take voice lessons at Merriam School of Music, and through high school, she trained under Judith Lander in both pop and musical theatre vocal stylings. Krissi’s strong vocal training background stands out in all her music, as her presence on the mic is fierce and vulnerable at the same time. In her later teen years, she worked alongside highly esteemed vocal coach Elaine Overholt at Big Voice Studios, and most recently she has worked with the incredible Lorraine Lawson at Lawson Vocal Studios. Hunter was also a stage performer for a Disney company at the age of 14, which made her into a true professional at a young age.
Krissi soon began writing and recording country/pop music. After working in Toronto and Nashville, she released 2 singles to Canadian radio. After that, her heart led her to go back to her pop roots. Krissi recorded a few songs with a label but decided the independent route was best for her and her career.
Along with making her undeniably addicting music, Krissi also works with charities of all kinds around Canada, including Sick Kids, Breast Cancer Support Services, and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Krissi has released two singles, “Dance with You” and most recently “Boomerang,” which have garnered Hunter great success on her new journey in the pop/dance genre.
What lead you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make a hit?
Singing and performing was always something that I loved to do. Growing up I would participate in as many shows and festivals as I could. In my teens, I was fortunate to meet with a producer who helped me expand my song writing skills. I fell in love with writing and recording from there. For other aspiring artists I would say it’s very important to hone your craft, work hard and to perform as much as you can. Everything is a learning experience. It’s important to work and write with people who push you to improve your skills and have your best interest at heart.
Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song/performance that made you say “Woah! I want to do that!”?
I have always loved music. Growing up my family always had music playing in the house from oldies and Motown to classic rock. Growing up in the 90’s, I remember turning the station Much Music on the tv and seeing my favourite pop artists music videos like the Spice Girls, Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys to name a few. I was hooked from that moment and told my parents that’s what I want to do.
What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
I love being able to pursue something that not only fulfils me but can hopefully help and inspire others. I’ve always believed music is a form of mental therapy. When it comes to writing music, I love the whole experience seeing how a song comes together from beginning to end. You never know exactly how it will come together but it’s really exciting when it all does. Lastly, I love being able to connect with so many different people and being in a community of people I feel I can relate to who are creative and like me.
Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video? Online Shows?
Yes! I have released a lyric video for the single and have plans to shoot some live acoustic videos soon as well.
When you create music, what is your personal purpose or goal?
I want my music to be as honest and real as possible. It’s really difficult for anyone to be or feel vulnerable. I hope if I can write from a place of vulnerability, it can encourage others to be too. I want people to feel like they can relate to my music.
Was anyone else involved in writing, recording, or producing the songs?
Yes, I wrote this song with Brian Howes and Giordan Postorino. Both Brian and Giordan were producers on the single “Boomerang” as we. It was recorded on Vancouver Island, BC.
What is the most useless talent you have?
I can wiggle my left ear by itself haha
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
The colour would be silver, and it would be very sparkly. I would call it Pixie Dust because I love anything Disney 🙂
Do you have a cherished childhood teddy bear or other stuffed animal sitting on your bed at home?
Yes, the same one since I’ve had since I was born and yes, I still sleep with it haha

I don’t walk under ladders
If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?
Not to sweat the small things, everything works out in the end.
