There’s a word that comes up whenever Liddy Clark talks about her music – “connection.”
A confessional storyteller with an old soul, her songwriter roots intertwine with a breezy west coast chill vibe grounded by earthy tones. Liddy Clark is an American singer, songwriter, musician, actor, and model currently based in Los Angeles. Born in Texas and raised in Florida, she began working professionally at the age of 9 and now she enters her next chapter with the release of new music on the horizon.
Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song/performance that made you say “Woah! I want to do that!”?
I remember watching the Disney movie “Pochahontas” as a kid and wanting to sing “Colors of the Wind” at my elementary school talent show! I also loved watching musicals and was really excited to get involved in that when I first started out.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I make music that mirrors the way my thought process works: lots of overthinking and realism when it comes to heartbreak, love, and everything in between. I try not to focus on genre too much, but my songs tend to fall somewhere in the middle of country, pop, singer/songwriter, and a little influence of early 2000’s pop/rock.
What was your creative process like for your most recent single “Nothing Like New York”?
I had written the phrase “Nothing Like New York” in my notes for a few years, and ultimately it was a songwriting class in college that inspired me to finally finish the thought. I used the phrase to create a story about fictionally moving to New York with a partner and feeling so guilty about it that there’s ultimately no way the relationship could work out. I’ve never been in this situation before, but I’ve definitely felt guilt in my life, and so I just transferred that emotion to how I imagined I’d feel about that situation.
Who are your main musical influences?
I listen to so many new artists all the time, but my all time favorites are Taylor Swift, Billy Joel, John Mayer, Phoebe Bridgers, and Kacey Musgraves.
You recently graduated from the USC Thornton School of Music, while you were there, did you learn any tips for dealing with writer’s block?
Writing through writer’s block tends to work for me, even though it’s a bit counterintuitive. Just staying in the area of writing constantly, even if it’s absolutely terrible stuff, helps you work through the bad in order to get back to the good.

You can actually check out my “we’re just friends” playlist on Spotify and that’s pretty much my everyday playlist. I love Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers, and Maggie Rogers.
What are your plans for any future releases?
So many plans for future releases! I have a lot of music that I’ve created in the past two years of this pandemic, so I want to release as much of it as possible so fans can have a whole catalog of material!
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?
Sometimes, not knowing is the best answer.
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
I’d like to think I’m a lilac of some sort, otherwise, I could also be an emerald green.
What makes you nostalgic?
Magic Treehouse books.
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
Is there one thing I should be focusing on right now to help you out? (Probably learning about investments and stocks)
If you could learn any language fluently what would it be?
I’d love to speak French, I just think it’s such a pretty language.
