“I think it’s fitting that the final 2 songs we released were the first track “Silhouettes” and the last track “Honolulu”. It’s fitting because “Silhouettes” is about the aftermath of my first relationship from my perspective, while “Honolulu” is a song I wrote for her for her birthday. So I find it interesting that the 2 songs that bookend this album really highlight the parity between the good times and the bad times.”

Denel Unveils New Single Crossroads

The pop and R&B infused track has dark urban undertones, accompanied by a synth and heavy bass production that will draw the listener in from the very beginning. The thought-provoking tune is self-produced and written by the South African born, NewZealand bred artist showcases his talents through beat-making and lyrical prowess to tell a story of unification and the need for one’s own validation. Denel started messing around with bassline ideas to begin with. Progressively, the melody for the verse came to mind almost instantly. Gradually worked towards building the track up rhythmically with the kick, clap and hi hats. The hi hats specifically are double timed triplets which he felt are a real highlight for this track. The aim was to create something that hits hard yet still maintains depth and meaning in the lyrical content. Denel comments on ‘Crossroads’, “We’re constantly in a state of chasing the next big thing, staying validated and sometimes all of this comes at the detriment of our own selves. I think it’s so important to know your identity and be comfortable with who you are. That’s really what this song is all about.” His previous track ‘Make It Right’ enjoyed a number eight spot on the NZ Hot 20 in its first week and has attained over 177,000 streams on Spotify alone. Its music video was nominated for ‘Best Music Video’ at Sony’s Catch Light Film festival held in Sydney this year. With 2022 on the close, Denel has set his sights on diversifying his audience, making music that appeals to people of all ages. 2023 has its own set of goals in mind for the singer-songwriter and producer and we look forward to finding out.

Non-binary artist Mothé Shares New Single & Music Video, “Happy”

Singer-songwriter and producer, Mothé (she/they), today shares ‘Happy’ which is out now via Slowlab Records and available at all digital retailers. Watch “Happy” video. ‘Happy’ was written and produced by Mothé and Robert Adam Stevenson. Speaking on the track, Mothé explains, “Happy is about struggling to be the one that moves on more slowly, but it’s also about seeing others feel joy and wishing I had the capacity to feel it too. I spend a lot of time wishing I could relate to people more, so when I see other people’s happiness it often feels like a world that I’m locked out of. I tend to stay alone and avoid talking to new people now as a result of it.”

The Immaculate Crows Release Single “Business Girl” From Album “And Then There Were Two”

Compelling Australia based Retro Rockers The Immaculate Crows present the new single “Business Girl”, from their recent album “And Then There Were Two” available now on all the major music services. LISTEN TO BUSINESS GIRL ON SPOTIFY Founder Bruce Neilsen is a Brisbane based artist who releases music under the name “The Immaculate Crows”. His eclectic catalog includes a mix of Psychedelic, New Wave, Punk and Pop stylings for a unique and interesting final product. The band is a loose collective of musicians who perform the songs that Bruce writes, arranges, produces and performs. Vocalists are all locally sourced Brisbane musicians who vary in age, occupations, singing and recording experience. Some are moms, some are authors, scientists and actors – some are professional singers as well as the above. All vocalists and musicians inject themselves expertly into the song and the lyrics, creating collaborative magic for the listener. Produced by Carolyn Neilsen, the upbeat and hopeful “Business Girl” was one of the first tunes Bruce wrote and performed as The Immaculate Crows during their inception in the early 1980’s. The composition, which is about women’s emancipation, is also possibly one of the first #MeToo songs ever written. The Immaculate Crows sound is a little Retro but with its own unique flavor. Listeners have commented that individual songs have reminded them of artists such as Pink Floyd, Santana, Black Sabbath, Jefferson Airplane, Stone Roses, Patti Smith, The Eagles, The Doors and Fleetwood Mac.
