    Interview with Cashma

Cashma is an R&B artist raised in the small town of Barnesville, GA. Growing up feeling like she didn’t fit in, Cashma found solace in music and one of her biggest inspirations Sade. She gradually learned how to be unapologetically herself and her music is a reflection of that. The introspective introvert has now created a space and sound all of her own.

What first got you into music?

I grew up as the only child to my mom and dad. I think as an only child you find creative ways to entertain yourself. Music was that for me. I would stay in my room for hours playing and singing to my favorite CDs. I’m sure my parents were tired of hearing me [laughs].

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

The Internet has made it more accessible to connect with your audience. Before artists would have to do concerts, press runs, and appearances just to spread their art. It’s not like that anymore. You can build a fan base from the comfort of wherever you are. Which I like because I’m so introverted.

What led you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make a hit?

First to know that numbers don’t matter. I think art is over judged. If it makes you feel good and you enjoyed creating it’s a hit. It’s a win.

I make music because it’s an outlet. It’s the one thing I know I can count on to express myself fully. There’s nothing like feeling an emotion and then making a song out of it.

What is your current music project about?

The ebbs and flows of being a human being. I noticed with myself there’s days when I feel like that girl. I feel put together and so is my confidence. Then other days I feel like a mess, unconfident and maybe feel a little imposter syndrome but both days are me. I wanted to marry the two and also subconsciously let myself know that on both days I give myself grace and love. So I named the album Sophisticated Mess.

    What’s next for you?

This new album and releasing visuals for it. I’m really happy with the work and my evolution as an artist. I’ve been working since 2017 and just to see how far I’ve come independently is an honor.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I can sing full songs while smiling and not moving my lips. [laughs] Can everyone do this?

    What makes you nostalgic?

Seeing my favorite movies/tv shows I used to watch as a kid. It takes me back to the same feeling. I love a good feeling like a kid again moment. My most recent is Halloween Town.

    What’s your favorite board game?

It’s not a board game but I love Connect Four. I’m the undefeated champ.

What was the last TV series you watched on TV?  Stranger Things rewatch. #PrayforMax

What would be a good theme song for your life?

    In My Glory by Me
