Max Muscato is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer and philanthropist. As a rock artist he brings electrifying performances to every show. Over the last several years Max has gained an extensive following and has toured and opened for: Citizen Cope, Theory of a Deadman, Aaron Carter, Finger Eleven, Eric Gales and more. He is currently working on his next singles Valarie and Toxic & Poison due out in 2022.
In addition to his music career, Max is also the founder of Rock Autism Music Festival and the creator/writer of the new TV show “Setlist.” The show is the truest depiction of their family dynamic while revealing the grind it takes to make it in the music industry. Max’s powerful songs written about his brother’s struggle with Autism and addiction is a deep-rooted catalyst that drives his passion and career. Proceeds from his festival fund Rock Autism programs for individuals with Autism, connecting them to a career in music and film.
What first got you into music?
My father was the first person who introduced me to music. At a young age I listened to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Chili Peppers and Stevie Ray Vaughan. As soon as I could walk, I had a pair of drumsticks in my hand. As I got older I slowly gravitated to other instruments and eventually my true calling– the guitar.
What is your creative process like?
For my creative process, I always start with the music. If I don’t love the music, then I simply won’t work on the song. Once I find a great guitar riff or rhythm that I love I’ll move on to melodies and the structure of the song. Finally, I’ll work on the concept of the song based on the vibe I feel from the music and try to tell a story once I have the soul of the song. It surprises most people that I don’t focus on lyrics first, but the music is the driving factor for me.
What led you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make a hit?
What inspired me to become a music artist was the fact that it is a constant battle and challenge amongst yourself to be better and create something new. Writing a hit is the goal of every musician but what happens after that? I love the fact that I wake up every day and get to create something out of thin air but make it better than my previous hit. If I had one piece of advice to other musicians, it would be that you have to be obsessed with music and your craft to get to that next level.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
The best advice I’ve been given is to not compare yourself to other artists and chart your own path. “There’s a moment when an artist stops replicating and starts innovating.” It took me a while to figure it out, but I think I’ve found my own path to be the next “Max Muscato.”
Who are your main musical influences?
My main musical influences are John Mayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yanni, Transiberian Orchestra, AC/DC, Debussy, James Horner and Linkin Park. I love all kinds of music and feel it’s important to diversify your musical palate to help influence your writing.
Do you have any superstitions?
I’m very superstitious and terrified of ghosts/demons. That being said, if I was ever asked to go on a show like Ghost Adventures, I would definitely do it.
What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
The last series I watched on TV was South Park. Regardless of what people say, I think South Park is one of the most intelligent and clever shows ever created. Not to mention the creators had one of the best musicals ever, The Book of Mormon.
Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?I get compared to Zac Efron all the time so I think it would be fun to have him play me in a movie.
If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?If I could learn any language fluently it would probably be German because anything I would say would sound intense and aggressive.
If you could be any superhero, what would your superpower be and your superhero name?
If I were a superhero my superpower would be the ability to turn Super Saiyan, and the name would be self explanatory. Super Saiyan Max.
