Roni Bar Hadas is a singer-songwriter based in Tel Aviv. After years of playing with various bands, she burst onto the scene with her debut album ‘Calm the Beast’ last year, winning acclaim across the globe.
Roni started her musical journey as a classical musician. Yet she felt the need to create her own original work and began to pursue the freedom and courage missing in her experience as a classical singer, in her writing.
Over the last couple of years, Roni has been gaining listeners all over the world, touring with her band and playing in major festivals.
What is your creative process like?
My creative process changes each time. I search for inspiration every day, I usually have a note open on my phone, and every time I have an idea or a thought I write it down. When I have the urge, I pick up the guitar and start creating a certain harmony and start jamming on it with a specific sentence I have in mind or just gibberish words and figure out what to fill the melody with.
What’s next for you?
These days I’m working on my second solo album. I’ve already released two singles from it – ‘Fear’ and ‘Is It Love’. I’m working on this album with my partner in music and in life Maor Alush and we try to explore new genres and it’s very fun working together. Also, I hope this year I’ll get to perform more around my country and outside of it, I can’t wait to meet my audience.
Do you enjoy recording and production?
Most of the time I enjoy it very much, the mood of creating is one of my favorites. When I was working on my debut album I was very close-minded and knew exactly what I want to hear and sometimes it kept me from being able to change and being open to new directions. These days I aspire to be more open and flexible because I know that I can be moved by a few different musical directions. Sometimes it’s confusing because sometimes I don’t know which direction to choose but I hope that in the future I will know how to balance listening to my heart and still being open to new adventures.
Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Don’t be afraid of your feelings, write them down and be compassionate with yourself and with other artists.

Today I mostly listen to Jorja Smith, Raveena, Arlo Parks, Kirby, Eloise, Lianne La Havas, Lola Young and I also listen to Israeli artists like Jasmine Moallem and iogi.
What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?
Any kind of pasta as long as it’s vegetarian
