Jayne Denham’s album ‘Moonshine’ hits you like white lightning

Jayne Denham — Australia’s undisputed queen of country rock — fires up a new era with her groundbreaking album Moonshine, led by the explosive focus track “Lovin’ A Wild Thing.”

“If you want the fire gotta dance in the flames, that’s what you get for lovin’ a wild thing.” Penned by hitmakers Brian White, Jason Sever, Ben Glover, and Chad Brownlee, the track captures the reckless thrill of loving someone untamed. It’s a perfect entry point into Moonshine — a record steeped in the grit, danger, and outlaw romance of the Prohibition era.

Inspired by the bootleggers, risk‑takers, and heartbreakers of the 1920s, Jayne blends the raw, lawless energy of moonshine culture with modern country‑rock swagger. The album’s themes of rebellion, passion, and survival echo through every track, brought to life by songs hand‑picked from some of Nashville’s most celebrated writers — including Miranda Lambert, Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, and Jon Randall.

Following the success of her chart‑topping album WANTED — nominated for Contemporary Album of the Year at the 2022 Golden Guitar Awards — Jayne returns with Moonshine, a 10‑track powerhouse that cements her status as Australia’s leading female force in country rock.

In March 2023, Jayne dropped the album’s title track “Moonshine” featuring Colt Ford, written by Cameron Jaymes, Colin Elmore, and Melissa Peirce. The boot‑stomping collaboration dominated playlists worldwide, landing on CMT USA, CMT Australia’s Official Top 30, No. 5 on KIX Country, and the CountryTown Hot 50.

The follow‑up single “Face of the Sun” (Brian White, Megan Conner, Pete Stewart) delivered raw emotion, while “Stunt Double” — written by Trevor Rosen, Hillary Lindsey, and Shane McAnally — hit No. 1 on Country Radio and earned a spot on New Music Friday USA. Jayne then teamed up with Hurricane Fall for the wild, high‑octane anthem “Are You Ready For This” (Jessi Alexander, Jon Randall, Miranda Lambert), which stormed the Top 10 Tamworth Hottest Australian Country Hits, Top 40 Australian Airplay Chart, and No. 6 on the Country Thunder Top 30.

The final single of the year, “Chain Smokin’”, written by Brandy Clark, Matt Jenkins, and Trevor Rosen, dives into the emotional rollercoaster of loneliness and longing — a standout moment of vulnerability on the record.

“Moonshine is the next evolution in my era‑inspired albums,” Jayne explains. “WANTED honored the rugged spaghetti‑western days. Moonshine dives into the rebellious spirit of Prohibition — fast cars, outlaw tales, and the thrill of breaking the rules. I wanted to capture that untamed energy and transport listeners into a world where rebellion runs deep and the music hits hard.”

Produced by Grammy‑nominated hitmakers Brian White (16 #1 songs, two Dove Awards, Jason Aldean’s “Blame It On You”) and Brian Bunn (cuts with Lee Brice, Jackson Dean, Parmalee), Moonshine blends country rock with a gritty, modern edge. Jayne’s soaring vocals and electrifying stage presence — including her recent sold‑out headline show at the Tamworth Country Music Festival — continue to solidify her as a powerhouse in the genre.

“These stories remain wild and outlaw, but with a contemporary twist,” Jayne says. “From the badass anthems to the party tracks and the heart‑wrenching ballads, I wanted this album to feel like a full journey.”

To celebrate the album, Jayne has partnered with the historic Franklin County Distillery in Virginia — the “Moonshine Capital of the World” — to launch her own line of flavored moonshines: Ridge Runner Pear and Orchard Peach. Fans who pre‑order select merchandise packs will be entered to win a bottle of Jayne Denham’s Moonshine, soon to be available in Australia.

The full‑length album Moonshine drops Friday, May 3, 2024.
