Little Galaxies Unfolds Waves of Emotions on “One with the Waking Sea”

Venice Beach group Little Galaxies has just released their spiritually transcending LP, One with the Waking Sea. The tantalizing album has a certain satisfying ebb and flow, paralleling the ocean nuances heard throughout the tracks. Although there is a great cohesion to the album, each song stands alone in recapping different stories and emotions experienced by the band’s founders, Jeanna Fournier and Amir Eshraghi.

Jeanna Fournier was inspired to create this album after a series of emotional and physical traumatizing events were inflicted on her. A car accident left her with PTSD, causing her to realize the unpredictability of life. “Most of the songs were written in the wake of healing from the physical and emotional trauma of a car accident, when I found myself relating my real-life obstacles to the natural laws of the universe as a way of coping with experiences out of my control and finding light in the darkness,” she described.

Another unexpected element of the work is the trickery and technique that lies within the instrumentation itself. When speaking about the unique composition and instrumentation of the album, producer and guitarist Eshraghi explained, “No software samples or keyboards were used for any textures or parts. If something sounds like a keyboard or bass synth, it’s actually a guitar or bass played through effect pedals in the studio, but some listeners/bloggers are convinced they’re hearing electronic elements, which is actually a compliment.”

Little Galaxies’ newest album One with the Waking Sea is truly entrancing. Stand out tracks are “Another World,” “Colors Change,” and “Waking Sea.” With mystery as vast as the ocean hidden in lyricism and production, this album is sure to entice any listener and engulf them in Little Galaxies’ universe.
