Marina Fleming Gets Raw With Listeners In New Album Groupies in the Age of Consent

Indie-rock artist Marina Fleming has released her new album, Groupies in the Age of Consent. Composed of nine reflective and sonically hypnotic tracks, each song’s lyrics are based on the artist’s own truths.

Fleming has perfected the blend between her vocals, storytelling, and instrumentals to bring us a cohesive and curated collection of songs that will have you immersed in her world. Groupies in the Age of Consent isn’t just an album; it’s an experience. It’s rare to find an album that feels this emotionally rich and self-aware. Inspired by her time at Bennington College, the record feels like a coming-of-age journal set to music that is messy, reflective, bold, and sometimes painfully real. Tracks like “Pills” and “Kiss” burn with emotion, and deeper cuts like “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Girls at the Party” continue pulling at themes of identity, longing, and self-doubt. Groupies in the Age of Consent feels like being handed someone’s diary and being surprised to find your own story written in the margins.

“With ‘Groupies in the Age of Consent,’ I was trying to make sense of my place in the music industry as a young woman. And also just my place in the world. I am so grateful to my professors at Bennington College for challenging me to tell a compelling story and trusting my contentious ideas.” – Marina Fleming

Groupies in the Age of Consent is a window into Marina Fleming’s trials and tribulations as a young woman navigating the music industry and the world as a whole. She provides listeners a series of go-to anthems for their own moments of introspection. A Los Angeles native, she has always been surrounded by music, inspired by icons such as The Smiths, Laura Nyro, Amy Winehouse, and Fiona Apple from a young age. Fleming hopes to use her unique combination of hypnotic folk-rock and indie melodies, as well as classic tongue-in-cheek lyrics, to build a tempting dream world that sends audiences spiraling out of relatability. The singer has taken her talent across the East Coast in her most recent headliner tour, playing alongside bands girleegirl and Prill, and also played at venues like The Gutter in Brooklyn and The G-Spot in Philadelphia. She has received numerous accolades from notable outlets, including Pop Punkers, New Music Weekly, and The Indy Review, for her previously released singles “Just Another Night” and “Harvey.”
Go soul-searching with Fleming in this new album, now available to stream on all platforms worldwide. To learn what’s coming next for the singer, follow her on Instagram @MarinaWFleming.
