Nashville’s rising indie-rock trio Edgehill returns with their latest single, “Doubletake,” out now via Severance Records/Big Loud Rock. A cinematic slow-burn, the track dives deep into the emotional aftermath of a fractured relationship, capturing the spiraling introspection that follows with a chorus that lingers long after the final note.
???? Listen to “Doubletake”
Edgehill describes the song as “a moment of self-reflection and acceptance,” tracing the elusive search for clarity in the wake of heartbreak. “Writing it marked a major turning point for our project,” the band shares. “Then and now, it remains our North Star.”
“Doubletake” marks the band’s second release, following their label debut “I Can Be Your Dog.” With over 8 million global streams and a sold-out house show tour under their belt, Edgehill is steadily carving out their place in the indie scene. This year, they’ll join KALEO, The Hails, Dogpark, and Winyah on tour, with additional house show dates newly announced.
Comprised of Chris Kelly (lead vocals, guitar), Jake Zimmermann (lead guitar, vocals), and Aidan Cunningham (drums), Edgehill’s roots span across the U.S.—from Charlottesville, VA to Long Island, NY to Westfield, IN. Chris and Jake first connected at Vanderbilt University, forming the early foundation of the band. A chance meeting between Chris and Aidan at a Nashville coffee shop completed the lineup, setting the stage for what Edgehill would become.
With momentum building and more music on the horizon, Edgehill is a name to watch in 2025.

What first sparked your love for music?
My mom is a music teacher and my dad is a singer-songwriter, so there was honestly no scenario where I wasn’t going to be into music. My mom taught me to coo to her pitch as a baby (which I am totally doing with my future kids), so I can’t remember a time where music wasn’t important to me.
Who inspired you to start creating music?
My dad played a huge role in my desire to make music. I learned guitar in elementary school because he played guitar. To my third-grade brain, I thought that was just what you do when you’re old enough. The same goes for songwriting – because of my dad, I always knew I was going to write songs, it was just a matter of when.
How would you describe Edgehill’s sound?
It feels like an ever-changing thing, but I would say that the music we typically create is pretty consistently raw and dynamic. Every song is a reflection of our lives, and we try not to overcomplicate things. It’s easy to get too heady with lyrics or to try to reinvent the wheel with the chords you’re using, so we do our best to remind ourselves to serve the song as best as possible, however that may be.
If music hadn’t been your path, what would you be doing?
It’s hard to say exactly what I would be doing, but I definitely would have just graduated from college. I was studying psychology, so l would probably either be in grad school or working in an elementary school? It is hard to say, but I would be working with people in some capacity.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
I wish I could give you an essay for this answer, but that would be incredibly dramatic so I will try to keep it short! My influences are always changing, and first and foremost, the Nashville music scene legitimately always blows my mind. I really get so much inspiration from various artists in town. Outside of Nashville, Radiohead and Thom Yorke specifically have strongly influenced what I make, along with Joshua Harmon with the Backseat Lovers. That band inspired the early Edgehill stuff a lot. I also love Alex G, Pinegrove, Great Grandpa, Elliott Smith, Jake Minch, Mercury, Simon and Garfunkel, and John Mayer – the list just goes on.
What’s coming up for Edgehill in the next six months?
Our first project! We have dedicated the past year and some change to creating and putting out a cohesive body of work. We are also trying to tour as much as possible, so ideally this next 6 months will be the most active Edgehill has ever been. It is really exciting!
Got a party trick or hidden talent?
I’m missing the tooth right next to my right big tooth. I have to take out my retainer when I eat, and I tend to forget to warn people. I have also lost the retainer at least 5 or 6 times, which typically results in my public toothlessness for weeks at a time.
Who would play you in a movie?
I have literally never thought about this. That is such a great question… probably Jacob Elordi because of how often people tell me I look just like him. I honestly get mistaken for him in public like weekly.
Any childhood keepsakes still on your bed?
I actually do not! I honestly have nothing from my childhood in my room in Nashville. I lose everything at some point.
If you were a flavor, what would you be?
I had to phone a friend on this one, and he said “a watermelon.”
What makes you feel nostalgic?
Oddly enough, the night sky makes me nostalgic. I love this question. Growing up, I would go outside and stare at the night sky for hours. The day before I left for college, I spent a while doing exactly that and was absolutely flooded with memories and gratitude. Ever since then, no matter where I am, the sky gives me that same feeling and transports me right back to the deck at my childhood home.
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
I think I would ask if all the thinking was worth it. Sometimes it is so difficult to be present, and when I am aware of that, I try to think my way out of it. I guess I would like to know if the analyzing really helped anything at all.
