The transition of Everything But The Everything from a collaborative studio project into a fully unified band is a major milestone for the Bay Area indie scene. Led by bassist, songwriter, and producer Izzy The Gent, the group’s latest single, “Hollow Heart,” highlights this new chapter.

The track delivers a moody, bass-driven blend of indie rock, post-punk tension, and atmospheric new wave textures. It showcases the dual-vocal dynamic of Sophia Prise and Tobias Hawkins, backed by a powerful rhythm section that includes drummer Cody Rhodes (known for his work with Geographer and Metallica’s Helping Hands project).

From a Rotating Cast to a Fixed Lineup

Izzy The Gent started Everything But The Everything back in 2020 as a small-scale recording project, pulling in a rotating cast of guest vocalists along the way — Sophia Prise, Rykarda Parasol, Olivia Barchard, and others each fronted a different single, with no single voice attached to the project long-term. “Hollow Heart” marks the point where that changes. Prise and Hawkins now hold the role of official lead singers, not featured guests, and the difference shows: where past releases carried the loose, exploratory feel of a collaborator dropping in for one song, “Hollow Heart” was written and shaped by a lineup that plans to keep working together.

The single’s artwork, created by Ryan Del Norte, visually anchors the dark, melancholic, yet beautifully cinematic space that the track explores.

    The Evolution of the Track

The song explores the contrast of two people experiencing the same love differently—where one’s need for space is misinterpreted by the other as rejection.

“This feels like the natural evolution of Everything But The Everything. What started as a collaborative project has grown into a real band with a shared creative vision.”

    — Izzy The Gent

With “Hollow Heart,” the band shifts from a rotating cast of musicians to a cohesive unit where every single member’s contribution is vital. This shift yields a layered, cinematic sound that is deep, genuine, and beautifully dark.
