SIREN is proud to release the lyric video for their single “February’s Son.” Singer and songwriter Rob Phillips wrote the song in memory of his family member Reese Puckett, who passed away at the age of 20 due to fentanyl.
“It’s one of the most difficult songs I’ve ever written,” said Phillips.
“My wife’s daughter had lost her son, and we went to her home to comfort her and her family. I wrote ‘February’s Son’ during this time as a way to deal with the pain and senseless loss. It’s a love song from us for his family and friends to honor him and the wonderful soul that he was.”
Despite the heavy subject matter, the recording process came together naturally. Staying true to their Middle America storytelling roots, the band allowed the song’s structure and emotional feel to evolve organically as they tracked their parts. Engineer Wyatt Oates at Madison Studios helped bring the mix to completion, preserving its intimacy while adding depth and clarity.
Renowned lyric video director Wayne Joiner, known for his work with Mamouth, Creed, Kansas, Alter Bridge, and Sevendust, was brought in to create the visual narrative for the song. Given a blank canvas, Joiner has created a video that fully captures the essence and emotion of “February’s Son.” The video depicts an old chest being opened, with photographs and memories flowing out in a magical visual storytelling sequence that mirrors the song’s heartfelt lyrics.
What makes “February’s Son” especially compelling is its duality. While born of loss, it is not a song mired in despair. Instead, it celebrates the enduring impact of love, the power of memory and the small ways people keep the presence of those they’ve lost alive. It is both a deeply personal story and a universal reflection on grief, family and compassion.
