The ‘Write to Be’ EP was inspired by the moment when London based Japanese artist, Mieko Shimizu stumbled upon a tiny house in a doorway on the deserted streets of Soho during lockdown. On its cardboard walls were written various tales; friends who died in the Hillsborough disaster, soldiers returning from war in Afghanistan, the love of a mother lost to cancer, life on London streets. The house was neatly furnished with a table, cupboard, drawers, some clothes on coat hangers and a bed.

“I think it’s fitting that the final 2 songs we released were the first track “Silhouettes” and the last track “Honolulu”. It’s fitting because “Silhouettes” is about the aftermath of my first relationship from my perspective, while “Honolulu” is a song I wrote for her for her birthday. So I find it interesting that the 2 songs that bookend this album really highlight the parity between the good times and the bad times.”

Non-binary artist Mothé Shares New Single & Music Video, “Happy”

Singer-songwriter and producer, Mothé (she/they), today shares ‘Happy’ which is out now via Slowlab Records and available at all digital retailers. Watch “Happy” video. ‘Happy’ was written and produced by Mothé and Robert Adam Stevenson. Speaking on the track, Mothé explains, “Happy is about struggling to be the one that moves on more slowly, but it’s also about seeing others feel joy and wishing I had the capacity to feel it too. I spend a lot of time wishing I could relate to people more, so when I see other people’s happiness it often feels like a world that I’m locked out of. I tend to stay alone and avoid talking to new people now as a result of it.”

Hailing from the Armagh and Tyrone counties of Northern Ireland, Emo-Indie outfit BIRCHES have returned to the fold and are ready to show the world exactly what they are made of, starting with infectious new single and video ‘Be Unknown’. Rising like a phoenix from the smouldering ashes of their previous band ‘We Are The Trees’ in Summer 2018 they have been steadily exploring and carefully cultivating their new sound in order to prepare for this coming era. Comprising of Liam Mcalinden (Guitar and Lead Vocals), Frankie McIlvanna (Lead Guitar), Jordie Kelly (Bass and Backing Vocals) and Delaney O’Neill (Drums), BIRCHES have firmly planted their roots and are ready for a new age, armed with an arsenal of tunes just waiting to be unleashed, it all begins with ‘Be Unknown’. Recorded at ‘Start Together Studios’ in Belfast, ‘Be Unknown’ represents a noticeable step up in sound quality whilst remaining true to that passionate, edgy DIY sound that gives BIRCHES such heart and soul. With nods to Orla Gartland or early Foals, ‘Be Unknown’ embodies the polished feel of a Girl in Red or a Phoebe Bridgers track yet still stands as its own unique entity. Uniquely unafraid to share the raw and often rough around the edges process of a band finding their feet and navigating their sound, earlier this year BIRCHES released two demo singles ‘Always F**cked’ and ‘Otherguy’ which showcased a clear, steady and exciting coming of age. Their most recent single release ‘See Yourself Tomorrow’ truly demonstrated this incredible growth of the band and their audience since those early pre-pandemic days and amassed over 13k streams within the first 3 weeks of release. BIRCHES have firmly planted their roots and are ready for a new age, armed with an arsenal of tunes just waiting to be unleashed, it all begins with ‘Be Unknown’.
